6spd manual transmission discontinued?

Called my dealer today to inquire about the potential of testing and driving a 6speed 535/550 - he goes on to tell me that it has been discontinued by BMW and is no longer available.

I mention to him that the online configurator for US/Canada still has it so what gives. He said that the 2012 models will not once it is update -

. Anybody heard anything formal or not about this?

Sucks if true. Wish I ordered mine in manual.

US 2012 models can be ordered in stick shift stilll... maybe just a Canada thing?

Maybe the dealer is confused thinking about 6speed auto (now it's 8 speed) and not thinking manual?

The US 2012 price list still shows the automatic transmission as a no cost option for the 535 and 550 (meaning the manual transmission is standard). Hopefully your sales rep is wrong about Canada.

I think the cost of developing the 6 speed along with the 35i and 50i engine would be all in vein if it was not offered for at least a few years. My advice is to try another dealer or just go over the border and order a US spec 5 series if you can... and import it?

Thanks guys.. I have been given an opportunity to test out the M5 in Europe in November so I am going to give that a go and then decide on what to do. Getting the M5 is the difference between keeping the Targa or having to get rid of it.
