Service indicator, am I missing something?
So my first service was due.
Well, its been saying 14.000km or 3/2015 in my dash. Come April and it changed to "service due since 4/2015" I go to BMW and tell them that my car is due for service, but its just the date, I had 14.000km to go before the date expired. They read out my key and tell me "You are due for everything in 3000km" I get a print out that say that my oil, brake fluid, all filters etc is due in just over 3000km, so why did my car say 14.000? Looking at the printout it appears that many items have 14.000km intervals. After I got my car back it now says "service due in 25.000km or 4/2017". What I don't get is that if many of the change intervals are 14.000km, how come it says 25.000km to next service? Edit. After looking at the printout again, it appears that it's not saying 3200km/14000km, but it's actually saying 3.2015 / 14.000km. Looks like I got a full service at less than half the km interval because of the date. Last edited by Noggie; 04-20-2015 at 01:05 PM.. |

I'd say it is as it should be, 3/15 or 14,000km whichever comes first.
My car has service items due (oil, brake fluid, micro filter), 7/15 or 8,000 miles. It translates as whichever comes first. My only date fixed item is the statutory vehicle test, (British MOT) due 7/15 at 4-years from registration. In my case everything will get attention 7/15, as I won't be driving 8,000 miles before July. From the service it will all be reset to 7/17 or 15,000 miles. HighlandPete |

Like I said in my edit.
It appears that the service rep made an error when he stated that I had 3000km left, not 14.000km as I was expecting. Think he must have gotten the 3.2015 confused with 3215km somehow, and that number just stuck with me. I actually thought it said 3215km/14.000km, so I had 3215 out of 14.000km to go. Looking at it it does actually say due 3.2015 / 14.000km, meaniong that my service indicator was right and the service rep confused me. I guess they have changed this from a km/mileage thing to a date (two years)/km/mileage "whatever comes first" thing. I guess this is because oil and brake fluids take up water from the air and that means that they do not hold their spec after a while. Since I do 6-8000km a year that means it would be 4 years between my services, and changing fluids every 4 years is too rare. I usually do oilchanges every year on my cars. |
