Okay, I took the Eisenmann Race plunge!

Made my down payment this morning for the Race Exhaust for my 550i (quad tips). The wife will never be able to tell the difference over my stock exhaust, right?

I'm hoping I'll be able to pretend that I don't hear a difference, when I'm around her!

That's right, she cannot tell the diff ... as long as she does not drive or be driven in the car.

Simple solution - crank up the radio a few notches

I'm thinking I'm hosed anyway. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be well worth it.
Also....it appears that the lead time has dropped by about 50% now. I was quoted about 4 weeks to come from Germany.
I'd say that's not too bad, considering some were reporting 9 weeks just a short while back!

I am still quite curious to see how loud the Race exhaust is. I'm certainly not opposed to a louder exhaust. Plus, I live in the country,
so I'm not concerned about waking up the neighbors.

Alright, I got the Eisenmann race exhaust install today. I picked up the car at 6:30 tonight, so I have no pictures to show....due to darkness. I promise to have pictures and videos soon.

Quick initial points....

1) Internet videos just don't give you any idea of what this exhaust sounds like. I've watched all of the 550i Eisenmann videos that youtube has to offer. None of them prepared me for the sound. How does it sound? DIRTY! Dirty, in a good way. Very deep and grumbly. Somewhat similar to an AMG sound (as much as a turbo-charged V8 can sound). Great sound. Love it. In fact, it exceeds expectation right now.........and this without the exhaust system being broken in (in about another 1000 miles).

2) This particular exhaust (the race version) drones a lot! There is a very small sweet-spot, where you can make the sound go away (somewhere between 7th and 8th gear). Highway driving is tolerable. City driving is borderline obnoxious. I do realize that I've been driving an almost silent car up to the point, so it will take some getting used to. I'll update in a month to give a final opinion. Just be warned, if you can't stand any drone....this particular exhaust will not be your cup of tea.

3) No performance gain. However, no performance gain was ever expected. This is only axle-back, so it's nearly impossible to gain performance. This merely shapes the sound of the car.

4) I have seen some people claim that the race exhaust is a "cop magnet". I cannot possibly see how it is a cop magnet. It's not THAT loud. Add an x-pipe and things may change. I will NOT be adding an x-pipe, as it would be unbearable for my personal driving comfort.

I will post a video soon. Just be advised........videos of the Eisenmann race exhaust do very little to give an accurate representation of the tone. This is a seriously deep and throaty sounding exhaust. It is incredible. However, there is certainly a trade-off.

I know what you mean man! I have the Supersprint with race xpipes and the drone was driving me crazy @ 2500 rpm but I just installed two Vibrant resonators and now I have no drone in the cabin anymore

After a month or so if he drown does not go away look into the ultra quiet Vibrant resonators.

I've got the race exhaust with AR catless downpipes and I love the way it sounds except for between 1600-2000rpm at partial throttle it drones. Above that and it gets relatively quiet but sounds good and below that it's just abit louder than stock. I always drive in sport mode and it tends to keep it above 2k so I rarely hear the drone but it's there. It sounds like the exhaust drones more without the downpipe change as mine really does it very little.

YES......she noticed!

Jimefam.....you are 100% correct. The drone is really in the 1600-200-rpm range.

What's funny is, when I first drove the car with exhaust, it sounded like an AMG (or similar car) was driving next to me. For the first block, I kept looking over my shoulder to see where the other car was. Then I finally realize....IT'S ME!

Is it insanely loud on initial start up when it's cold? Mine is super loud for the first 15 seconds or so. Also since mine burns oil it smokes a good bit when I get on it.

So the big questions is...does the sport version drone? What causes this thing we call drone?! Ha...

Yes, when I start the car when it's cold....it is very loud. But, like you said, it settles down after 15-20 second.

Mine smells a little funny after I've really driven aggressively. I think it'll go away after some time has passed and it's broke in.

Exhaust will take roughly 1200 miles to break in. During that period you will smell the packing material burning off. A perfect excuse to drive more

Yup I drove mine from Cali to Atlanta in 2 days right after AR installed it. Pretty cool to hear it go from raspy and a bit nasal in the morning to deeper and mellower by the evening.

So, it'll sound more "hollowed out" after the break-in?
