Weird whirring noise -- video inside

Hi all,

Have a 2011 528i

Took my car to the dealership and they still couldn't figure out what's going on with some weird, generally lower end RPM, noises that my car is making.

The noise has been going on for about a year and a half thus far, and generally more pronounced when it's colder outside, or when I first start up the car.

Does anyone have any idea of what this could be? I'll use the responses from this thread to give the dealership some focus points. Appreciate it!

Is there a cow stuck in there somewhere?

My dealer has been looking for the goat in my engine for two weeks now.

Well I just got Jaime pretty bad news from the dealer. They are going to replace .....the engine. They said it was one of the bearings internal to it and that it was causing premature wear. The resale value of my car just took a nosedive with that going onto the CarFax report. :-(

Why would you think it would go into Carfax? If the dealer does the work it is doubtful they are going to report it. Carfax buys their data from police reports and some insurance companies, I think your situation is a little different. Good luck.

Very strange noise - clearly not normal...

It seems to make the noise when the transmission upshifts, so I'm inclined to say it's a transmission issue. What that is, however, is unknown to me!

Good luck with it!

Some dealers report all service work to CarFax. If your dealer does, you are correct, a replacement engine isn't going to help you come sell or trade time.
