Pre-LCI Cupholders

I hate the cupholders.

Has anyone converted them to the LCI ones?

The pre-LCI kind of rotates up while the LCI is stationary (after opening the lid). The "fingers" are the same.

Not sure what is the difference, but here is a retrofit. Looks the same as my pre-LCI.

Yeah the rotating lever thing is a pain in the ass. Thanks for that! I need to swap it out. It's driving me insane.

No hate here with my Pre-LCI cup holders, then again all I drink is Poland Spring water so never had issues with putting something in there that was either too small or too big.

Why do you hate them OP?

Yeah...the cup holders suck ball$! For $40k BMW will send you to one of their Engineering schools to teach you the proper way to insert your drink into the cup holder. Totally worth it if you ask me! I'll be the Guinea pig and afterwards tell you how it's done!

Right???? And especially in the dark, jamming a bottle into it takes several tries if not giving up and putting it on the passenger seat. The dang thing just moves all the time.

Yup! First hundred tries it sounded like I was going to break the cup holders but now I've got it down packed!

I bought these many many years ago for my E38. Transferred them to the F10 and they still work pretty well. Never had a spill so far. And so far, I haven't had to use the regular F10 cupholders. ItBloo it doesn't help your 'rattles with nothing in it' issue, but maybe if you no longer use it you can fix the rattle some other way?

I didn't realize the passenger side was deeper and put my Super Big Gulp in the driver's side. I got a lap-full of Diet Coke on a climbing right 270 interchange... Grrr.... I haven't even checked if the same depths are on the LCI holder (have pretty much given up soda) ; now I have to go look!

All I can say is those of you with the automatic have it good in this one instance. The cup holder on the 6MT is about 3/4" deep, sitting right in front of the center console/armrest, which is a good 3-4" deep. WTF?

LCI cup holders are deeper, the air vent chamber to the rear ac would need cutting into to accommodate the deeper cup holder. I looked into this last year and gave up. Your stuck with the crappy Pre LCI items unless you want to start cutting ?

Oh that's disappointing. Can anyone verify this by chance? I don't want to buy the replacement and not have it work D:

E39 cup holders were the worse! I have no issues in my F10, every cup I've tried to put in them fit and the little key fob holder is perfect!
