Assuming it's the 4 cylinder (2012 or newer), that's not a good sounding engine to begin with, so making it louder is not a great move.
Search "BMW N20 exhaust" on YouTube and you'll find several examples. They all sound like high powered chainsaws.
Like this expensive dual exhaust mod

A 4 cylinder isn't going to be loud especially with a turbo. The way the F10 looks, I think having a louder exhaust, even if it sounds decent, will be a complete mismatch. People will be expecting to see a hot hatch and then a big ass sedan pass by.

Unless your friend is into that stuff.

All you gotta do is find the right muffler and/or resonator. By quad system, you must mean quad tips so buy 4 tips you want. Then buy the piping you want. For the N20, 2.5" - 2.75" piping is probably enough.

Then you go to a good shop that does welding and bending. Tell them you want a catback exhaust. Lift up the car and they can help you pick how you want the set up to look.

You don't need to go dual pipes back. The N20 doesn't need the flow of dual 2.75" pipes unless you're boosting over 21 PSI. The rear dual exhaust with quad tips is purely cosmetic. Always try to use the stock mounts first instead of trying to make new mounts.

I've done several custom jobs already. It's fairly easy and takes about 3 hours. I usually jack up my car and look at what I can do. Then I draw it out for the guys to do it. It costs about $400-500 for parts and labor. If you buy a catback exhaust, it will probably cost around $1k or more for this car. Not worth it.

FYI - You normally don't need a resonator for a turbo motor. The turbo chops up the sound and take out most of the annoying drones and bees. Just find a good muffler with the right size, dimensions and inlet/outlets.
