Exit Ramp View Glitches in HUD

Hi All - posting this from Vienna Austria after taking delivery of my AW 550i M-Sport. Pictures to come when I get back to the good ol' US of A.

Anyhow, my HUD Goes to all white when exit ramp view is selected. It looks fine on the Nav screen. I disabled it for now.

Any thoughts on what is causing this and and a possible fix? Or should I just wait to get it back in Cali and have the dealer do a software update?

By the way this car is really amazing and a whole lot better than my 2 previous V8 E60's!

Thanks in advance!

Hello, had a P.U.M.A. on this and for you, should only be a temporary thing.

Basically I live in Germany but am able to purchase US Spec cars here. I have had this problem since I have taken delivery of my 550 in April. BMW has come to the conclusion that it is because of the non-full European Maps in the GPS. I have the full US maps with a courtesy "test-map" of the European maps. Luckily, I will have mine fixed shortly with a full install, also lucky for you, the HUD will operate perfectly once your back home.

Enjoy your time here in Europe and hope that post helps.

Glad your enjoying it! and glad I could ease your concerns!

Matter of fact, I am taking my 550 right now up to the dealership for what I hope will be the last visit for this problem. Just got back from a trip to Brussels and the white box of death in the HUD was killing me!

Yea, Vienna is awesome, not sure what your comfort factor is with going further East but Budapest is an amazing place and just a short jaunt down the road. Also part of the EU so no border nonsense. Find a hotel with secure parking and no worries.

I have the HUD exit ramp issue in my 535xi (a white block appears in the HUD as you approach an exit ramp). My car is currently at the dealer for last two days to fix the problem. I am hoping to have the car returned today with fix.

Ah, odd ... BMW Munich said the only reason why this would happen is if you have the wrong maps installed in your NAV. You should check the software version of your NAV, it should says something to the affect US-PREMIUM.

My car is back at the dealer to fix the HUD white block exit ramp issue again. It was returned to me last week with the dealer telling me that they reprogramed the navigation and the problem was fixed. It was not fixed. It has now been at dealer another 2 days and I was just told that they still have not been able to fix it. I am hoping to get it back tomorrow but at this point I am doubtful.

Add my name to the list. I'm in Germany now, and I have the WBOD ("white box of death") when approaching autobahn exits, too. Hoping this is resolved when I get the car back in the US.

Today's my last day here...awesome trip. Highlights:
  • tour of the Welt, including "behind the scenes" and a quick view into the storage area
  • visit to the BMW Museum
  • delivery at the Welt, including watching the car come up in the glass elevator to the delivery floor
  • two laps of the Nurburgring!
  • visits to Munich and Dingolfing plants
  • well over 1,000 miles of autobahn driving, including some with the cruise control set at three-digit speeds!

Yea, I live here in Germany but bought US spec, took Munich a PUMA to figure it out but it was definately the maps in the Nav. Munich for ED install a courtesy test EU map for you to use, its was my car was delivered here with. Once you get back to the States and they install (correctly) the full US maps it will go away.

My car is still at the dealer who is trying to fix the problem. Tomorrow makes a week that the dealer has had the car. I have the US maps installed but still have the problem. They do not appear to be able to resolve it.

Wow that stinks! Did you do European Delivery?

My car will here at the end of the month. Hopefully it will be ok once I pick it up.

No, I had US delivery but on delivery the entire computer that works the I-Drive was faulty and had to be replaced. I had to wait about a 10 days for one to be delivered from Germany. That may have something to do with the problem.

I got my car back yesterday and they fixed the HUD navigation problem by replacing the CIC (car infotainment computer) which apparently was faulty. This is the 4th CIC to be installed in my car. First two were also faulty. It seems to be fine now.
