New owner - 535i xDrive

Hello everyone. I just took possession of my car this last thursday night. Dark graphite with black interior. No additional packages.

I don't have navigation and only have the iDrive with the 7" screen. Have also the USB in the armrest which works fine with my Android 2.2 HTC Desire (office and audio stream through BT).

Am I supposed to be able to play DVDs in this car ? MY is 01/2011. Every time I insert a DVD it ejects it saying unable to read. Did try it with DVD movies, DVD data (mp3 and/or avi video files).
Am I doing something wrong or I just have a CD player ? I understand from what I read over the forum, everyone is able to read DVDs.

Appreciate any ideas.

Thanks,
Alex.

Enjoy, and welcome aboard!

Its just a CD player, but think there is a way to play DVD's, use the search tool here

Alternatively if you have BMW Apps and installed Media Adapter + an iPhone , you can watch videos via this method

Congrats on your new ride!

I thought AUX is in the armrest, and the USB (optional) in the hand compartment on the passengers side?

You're partially right. The USB in glovebox is part of NAVpro. The USB & AUX in the armrest is part of BMW Apps option, which I seem to have.

But then I have some funny options on the car. For example I have PDC, heated wheel and seats (part of cold winter package). Have the camera button near the iDrive but no cameras. USB & AUX In in armrest.

I did try the CD/DVD and the 'highest' I could go is CDRW written with mp3s on it. That's all. Doesn't accept any DVDs whatsoever. Is this the CD head unit that needs to be replaced or just a software matter ?

I bet since you don't have Nav, it won't read DVDs. I know my car (with Nav) can read DVDs while in park.

Well... it doesn't play them from USB either.
