Trunk...Look no hands..
I was showing a friend of mine my 12 535i and was kidding saying it would be great if the trunk would open by waving your foot under the back bumper..so I demonstrated this..and WHAT....it worked...tested it a again today..what you do is wave your foot under the back bumper..under the license plate..and then step back a little and the truck opens...really cool..didn't think this was an option on the 535i...and it seems to work quite well...Is there nothing this car can't do..

I wanted the auto open and close trunk but I would had to get the soft close doors with it when I speced out my car in 2011. Instead I skipped that option. Then the auto open when you wiggled your foot underneath the car came out. I wanted that too! I don't want to sell the car for those little things. Do I really need it? Not really. But could I retrofit it. Possibly. Here's what I found so far if anyone's interested.

Ausfahrt..nice find..the trunk button that is fitted to the US spec car i believe is #3. Doubt i would sell my car if it didn't have it..but it certainly kinda cool that it does.

Thanks! Now to decide if I really want to do this. It really does not look that hard. But looks really could be deceiving especially when you think you have all the parts and you don't. I have to do a cost analysis and see how much each parts would cost. Plus I have to eventually have to look at a donor car and see how everything is wired up. But who wants there trunk disassembled? Any volunteers?

What, you have to kick the release button above the number plate? Guess that'll work if your aim's accurate, but I'll stick with the key fob option

I retrofitted the smart opener to my March 2011 F10. I wrote instructions here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=835896

My thought exactly. How hard is it to reach into your pocket and squeeze a button? It's all those extra unnecessary parts that make these cars heavy. A pimple here, a pimple there. All of the sudden you have a full blown case of acne.

I think the point of it is when you have your hands full, say like carrying groceries, you don't have to put them down to reach into your pocket and open the trunk... Which I'm sure most will agree is a benefit, it's not necessarily an option that you would use if you had the capacity to access your key easily.

This is an option on many cars these days - I knew of it, of course, since I spec'd the car for purchase. But what I was pleased to find is that it works for CLOSING the trunk, too. People often forget that when your hands are full bringing cargo out to the trunk, they're also often full after taking it out. So it works nicely to close it, too - just wave your foot once, the trunk will start beeping (warning that it'll be closing), and it nicely closes.
This is a super handy feature... or should I say "footy"?
