Question Retrofit of Reversing Camera

I'm thinking of retrofitted a reversing Camera to my f10 5 Series and was wondering if anybody has already done it already ?. Is it difficult to do ? and where did you get the Camera. I came across a company on Ebay who are selling one at a reasonable price but they advised that I must have a video out connection on my Idrive. I have Professional Sat Nav, does this mean I have the required Video Out connection ?

Any advise would be appreciated.

BMW offers a reverse camera retrofit kit that makes it all work asif fitted by the factory.

A dealer has to do it as they have to reprogram the car afterwards

I have just completed this on my 2010 F10 520d. The longest part is taking off all the trim (not difficult) and you need to take all off it out of boot/trunk.

There are a couple of screws in the felt under each of the hinge points of the Toolkit on the boot.

How did you remove the door sill panels. I've heard you slide them forward and pull upward? Also did you need to remove the rear seat side cushions?

Do you know the part number or link on BMW website… as I cannot find the link anywhere on BMW site?

Most of the trim panels are clipped in - a bit of force is required, the ones on the boot are particularly hard (a metal trim tool will help).

I did not remove the side cushion - i was a bit worried about breaking it as i could not figure out how it was clipped in, i think its at the top and then pulls up - i Was able to to get my hand in to pull the cable through- there is also a clip hidden in there for the rear door sill trim.

I removed the rear door and front door sill trim, B pillar lower trim loosened it , un-clipped lower part only ( to remove it completely you probably need to remove the seat belt trim. removed the A pillar lower trim and also there is a access panel underneath between the glove box and the front of the car( 3 screws - one is on side near transmission tunnel ). I should say my car is RHD and cable goes down the left had side looking from the rear along with the other cabling - there are already channels there so making a lot easier to pull the cable though.

Mine is a basic RHD 520d with only the ProNAV and doesn't have any other video sources so makes wiring easier. My car had a fuse in F123 already but there was no wiring. You need to push firmly with a pair of pliers to get the cable A9 into the socket ( check orientation before you do it ).

Sunny,
Great pics man, I just finished mine including an upgrade of the screen and cic to professional nav from business nav. Took four hours.
I used a plastic trim removal tool kit from SP tools for 17 AUD. Worked a treat on those press studs. Your summary is very accurate as mine is an RHD car too. I also noticed a brown 5a fuse already in the power panel. Did you have to move the green power cable to another socket to get it to work or did BMW just give a fuse already?
This is an easy retrofit and requires only a few tools.

The green cable is the retrofit cable after i pushed it in. It was odd that a fuse was in there when there was no connection!

Did you manage to remove the rear seat side bolster?

yes, the rear seat bolster needs a firm hand above and behind the top. You pull towards the front of the car while using the other hand underneath the bottom to lift up.

Hi JC,

I am also interested in retrofitting a reversing camera in my 2011 528i MSport. Can you please let me know the process you went through. I am in Sydney Australia so will be great if I can contact you for advise.

PS: I have done a fair bit of coding for my car, so happy to share with fellow Aussies and everyone else in the forum as well. Tried to send you a PM, not sure if you have received it as this is my first post to this forum.

Marcosg,
I tried pm to you but the forum said your setting aren't enabled to receive pms.
The retrofit is dead easy, and yes I'm very happy with the quality of the OEM kit. I'm still waiting on Men, one of Patryks guys to contact me to code the car.
As far as purchasing goes please enable your setting so I can pm you.'There are some tips and trick here. I started with Patryk at info@bimmer-tech.net Just be sure to include you last 7 numbers and letters of your vin.
You will also need to confirm if you have the USB in your center console and Professional Nav with the 10.2 inch screen. The upgrade wont work on the 7.2 inch screen running the business nav. The USB com box retrofit comes as part of the OEM camera kit so you canplug it into your center console if you need.
If you like I could Skype you through the fitting when the time comes.

Thanks JC,
The reason you cannot PM is because, this is only my second post on this forum, and I need to reach a minimum of 5 posts. I will PM you again once it is enabled.
