Cleaning the Navigation screen...

What are you guys using to clean the screen?
I'm using lens cloth with ammonia and alcohol free screen cleaner.
Unfortunately the screen looks like s@#t, but then again that's how I got
the car over a year ago.
It's only visible when the sun is behind and the screen is dark, but
annoys me none the less.
Looks like a million small scratches and dried water droplets on it,
and wanted to see if anyone has some tricks how to get rid of them
before I start to experiment.
Here are some pictures for reference.
Please disregard the fingerprints, just tested if there were any deep scratches,
but there aren't.

Your paper towel is like sandpaper. Only rub screen while cloth is wet. The tag on tshirts and MF cloth can scratch,
So keep tag away.

Next, use soft cotton like tshirt do not use paper.

Take wet cloth and rub right to left, but apply pressure in only one direction.

You can wipe wet several times. Never rub cloth in circular motion.

Once you complete cleaning with wet cotton, use a clean dry cotton or MF cloth and wipe once in left to right motion. Do not apply pressure except for a single wipe. Any excess after your single pass with dry cloth, then blot only.

Cover it up with a screen protector. It hides everything.

I got this for my X3 and 535i CPOs.

Frankly, I avoid cleaning it at all as it's super susceptible to scratches. I use a soft brush to gently remove the dust and when I wet clean it at all I use an LCD cleaning liquid and a towel for optics.

I've cleaned mine less than half a dozen times in 3+ years. It is not very robustly built.

When I do, water and micro fibre for me too. Seems to work well.

First week with the car, one of my kids smeared a greasy finger on it thinking it was a touch screen. Bounced back from that and haven't had any issues. Less is more though in protecting this silly, fragile interface.

I've had three F series over the last four years, all of them had the screen cleaned (almost) every week with no issues, they're not as susceptible to damage as others have indicated.

I generally use Meguiars interior detailer and a microfibre towel.

The trick is to not let the liquid dry on the screen, you have to wipe and polish it off straight away.

Mine was similar when I bought the car, but not as bad. The F10 has an anti glare coating applied directly to the screen, this can be damaged if not cleaned properly. Previous BMW's had a plastic anti glare cover over the screen that was more resilient.

Some owners have used a mild cutting polish to remove the coating once damaged and either left it un-coated or then applied an anti glare screen protector. If you google this you will find videos showing how to remove the screen to do this.

I try to avoid touching the screen, and only use a dry cloth to wipe off the dust.

Ugh, I am right there with you.

I just love the looks you get from adult passengers when you try to come up with the right words and not sound like a pompous moron in preventing screen touches.

I am with the poster that said this is silly it's so fragile. But, BMW knows the psyche of its purchasers. BMW knows that the aggregate of every little scratch , ding, and damage weighs heavily on the bimmer owner.

Buying a new BMW offloads this weight and serves to motivate BMW's most loyal buyers.

Trust me. There is a psychological reason these screens are so fragile. It's all tied into the ownership lifecycle and BMW knows how to manipulate its owners over the standard 3 to 5 years of ownership.

If you these interiors would hold up and not show the annual stains of life then there would be a whole lot less BMW purchasing going on and BMW wouldn't want that now would it.

So, yes, by using strong, beautiful, soft, touchable surfaces everywhere but the most critical surface (the Idrive and cluster screens) BMW plays us all like a fiddle. Does anyone really recognize the complete silliness of having only a 3 to 5 year life cycle per owner tier?
