BMW OnLine

Hi

I'm new here so please take it easy on me. Just this Saturday I have bought F11 520d M Sport. Did try to connect to BMW online but with no success. Had the message coming in
to visit www.bmw.co.uk/bluetooth. Could be this becomes of the subscription which I have to purchase or somethino else? My Galaxy S5 connect with car strict away once I start the car without any issues play music text and phone calls. But cannothe start BMW Online.

Did not buy brad new car and it's 2011 with 76k miles. And loving. Always said the ill be back with BMW. This is my Baby

BMW Online is a subscription based service, its free for the first 3 years and £120 a year after that. Presumably given that your car looks like it is a 2011 the subscription has expired which is why it doesn't work.

I have it. I almost never use the BMW Online component unless I'm showing somebody that I sort of have the internet in my car. It's practical value is limited by the fact it has an Edge data connection not a 3G one so is very slow. So you need to wait ages for each new page to load and frankly if you want to read the news or look at the weather its easier, quicker and better to just use your Smartphone.

What I do use, however, constantly, is the Send to Car function of Google Maps. I cannot remember the last time I entered a destination into the nav using iDrive - I just send everything to my car from either Google Maps on my PC or even Google Maps on my phone as I'm walking across the carpark or something. This feature is absolutely excellent.

The trouble is I am not sure this feature alone is worth £120 a year.

I am in the similar case.
Bought 2011 520d and subsription is expired / or never activated by previous owner.
Google 'activate bmw online' and fill in the form.
It will go to bmw. If it was never activated, then they will activate it for you.
If it was activated then you will get a call with the price tag.

You can say 'No' at that point.

If bmw is going to aks me £120 for 1 year, I am going to say no.

I will code it to work with my phone using my phone internet data package.
The disadvantages by doing that is that I cannot locate my car on bmw connected driver application, cannot send maps to my car and cannot use features such as folding mirrors, or turning on climate control on the mobile application.
These are the extra features which you get if you take the services from the bmw as they pay 'Vodaphone' (I was told so) to activate the sim which is built in your combox (BT module).

PS: Met somebody who works for a company and they contract / design the BT modules following different regulations in different countries.

The Locate my Car is a waste of time anyway as it only works if you are within 1.5Km of the car.

That is so wrong. If bmw is using the built in sim in the combox to locate it, then it should locate the car irrespective of the distance from the owner

I know. There's been a lengthy discussion as to why BMW won't do it.

Probably because it would mean tracker would be redundant and that could be a big revenue loss.

Plus it's probably linked to some sort of data protection...
