Advice on 2012 535i purchase

Hi Everyone,

I have been in the market looking for a 535i and came across 2012 535i 18k miles. The seller was asking $26k for it and below are its options.

I have looked at the thread http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=568011 for 2012 535i options but couldn't figure out what specific packages this car has and what packages it doesn't. Can you please help me with narrowing down the packages it has?

Also, I know that 2014 LCI is better than 2012 but I do not see any of them under $30k with less mileage. stating that, would you advise 2013 over 2012, if so why? and would you advise 2014 over 2013, if so why?

Looks pretty well optioned. With the DHP I would definitely get a warranty!

Do a thorough test drive, have it inspected, check the Carfax... How long it's been on the market will give you an idea if you should pay full boat of bid him down.

From the comfort of my La-Z-Boy it looks like a good buy...

Are you saying that it has DHP? what code/option is that in the aforementioned list? also, what's the meaning of S677 HiFi System Professional DSP? Harman Kardon logic 7?

Thanks

I misread... It's S223 Electronic Damper Control (EDC). Per BMW...

Quote:
Electronic Damper Control.

Electronic Damper Control (EDC) automatically or manually adjusts each damper to suit the driving conditions meaning you enjoy outstanding comfort along with the best in BMW on-road safety. EDC reduces variations in wheel load, ensures tyres have excellent traction and counteracts bodyshell movement regardless of the weight your automobile may be carrying or the state of the road's surface.

Sensors constantly monitor all factors influencing the vehicle's behaviour and occupants' comfort, in order to precisely adjust the damper control. In a fraction of a second, the signals are analysed by the EDC microprocessor and orders are sent to the actuators on the shock absorbers, which, with the help of magnetic valves, are variably adjusted to provide optimal suspension. Thanks to Electronic Damper Control, the tendency for the nose to dip when braking is practically eliminated. The influence of potholes and unevenness on the road surface is reduced to minimum.

In addition to increased driving comfort and improved roll characteristics on the tyres, EDC also contributes to vehicle stability and safety. By reducing the nose's tendency to dip when braking and improving the tyre traction, EDC shortens the braking distance when braking heavily. The damper adjustment means that even when braking with ABS the vehicle chassis remains upright on the road and all four wheels have the largest possible contact to the surface.

The Driving Experience Control switch with ECO PRO lets the driver choose between various programs (like COMFORT, NORMAL, SPORT or SPORT+) and adjust the suspension to suit his individual needs.
S677 HiFi System Professional DSP..

The HiFi radio is a step above the base. It has subs under the seats, rear deck and front center (dash) component speakers, a tweeter opposite the outside rear view mirrors and mids in the front doors. It's not bad IMHO, as a car isn't the best sound stage!! The DSP my mean it has Logic7... I don't know that but, if it has HK there is a HK label on the front door tweeters.

It doesn't have DHP. It has half of DHP (223 - Electronic Damper Control, meaning adjustable suspension for comfort vs sport), but not Active Roll Stabilization (2VA adaptive drive, the active antiroll bars). Still good though!

The major options I can see from that list are:
M Sport
Electronic Damper Control
Sport Auto Transmission (with paddle shifters)
Comfort Access (awesome - touch door handle to unlock/lock while keeping keys in your pocket. plus motorized trunk)
Comfort Seats (also awesome, more adjustments than standard)
Backup camera with park distance control (but not the overhead view cameras which are more)
Navigation
Heated seats
Heads-up display
HiFi system Professional is the upgraded Harmon/Kardon stereo (but not the highest B&O stereo)
BMW Apps (internet apps in the nav screen)

That's a very nicely optioned car!

Your vehicle is optioned EXACTLY how mine was. I feel it's the perfect mix of packages you need and no additional fluff.

I would always suggest a newer year if the price is relatively the same. I will tell you that I picked up a 2013, exact same options, 33k miles, for a tad more than your vehicle. Granted I have almost double the miles, but it's still within 12k miles a year of driving, so I wasn't worried.

If a 2013 is in your budget, the major improvements are a new iDrive system (NBT), and the 704 M Sport Suspension on the M-Sport 535 & 550.

How good or better these 2013 iDrive NBT and 704 M sport suspension compared to that of 2012? I think similarly specced 2013 535i are priced $4k more than this one.

Also, seller current asking price is $26k. At what price would you say its a great deal that I should not refuse? $23k?

Thanks

I have a base '12 535i and just acquired a '14 CPO 535i M Sport (w/704).

The NBT has better graphics and more options than the '12 CIC.

The 704 is much better (duh...) than the base suspension. It would surprise me if the 704 is different between the F10 model years. The '14 is also the LCI which adds some creature features like with CA kick to close the trunk.

The car does have the HK sound but, for some reason, 2012s don't have the word Harmon Kardon anywhere on the car. The clue is if the car has an 7 channel equalizer in the I-Drive.
It appears to be well-optioned, but I can't answer the question on options since a number of U.S. options are standard equipment in Canada.

Not sure how to make of this 677 HiFi professional. Its an upgraded system but some say its harman kardon ( unbranded on speakers ) and some say its Dirac.

Can anyone with 2012 f10 confirm if they have harman kardon branding on their speakers?

Thanks

So very sorry about my first post. I said '2012' when I should have said 'Harmon Kardon' is not on any of the speakers in my 2012. They are unbranded for some reason.
