These guys are excellent but it's commercial and may be priced out of reach for personal use..

What about BMW's own tracker? I don't know what it costs in fitting and annual subscription charges, but it might be worth a look.

iPhone is the way to go... Buy an old 3GS and hide it (build into) in the car with constant 12v power (when the ignition is on). Remove PIN-lock on the SIM-card (so if battery runs flat when car is turned of, it will automatically boot up when the car is turned on). Then add the iPhone to "Find My iPhone" in iCloud. Works perfect for me... even to check up on the wife :P

Doesn't the iPhone app my BMW remote track you car?

I know when I've used it to remote send sat nav addresses to my car it shows the location of your car on the map and also where your phone is.

I thought you could only use the vehicle location finder if it was within 2km or thereabouts? Don't think it works if the ignition is on either, which isn't helpful if it's being done as a counter-theft tool.

skoTner, you seem to have forgotten the cost of an airtime contract, although for a basic £5-10 per month it's not a bad solution if you have £100 of iPhone sitting about.

Only ever used it when I'm at work and my car is a couple of hundred yards away. Wonder if you can find a way to over ride this. Would be a useful tool, I suppose that if you car was stolen and you called BMW they should be able to tell you and the police where it is.

It depends what sort of tracker you require. Our recovery vehicles are fitted with GPS locators to track their location however these aren't the type that you can remotely shut down or insurance company approved.

The company we use is www.quartix.co.uk and my opinions on the system can be found here.
