How does the trapezoid exhaust tip come off?

How does the trapezoid exhaust tip come off? Has anyone ever just replaced the tips, also thinking of buying M-5 mufflers to replace the 550i mufflers, would this work?

The trapezoid tips are tack welded on pretty securely onto the twin pipes and doesn't seem to be able to come off except if you cut the pipes.
Regarding the M5 mufflers...the tips point inboard a few inches so our standard or M Sport 550i rear diffuser won't work. You'll have to add an aftermarket diffuser or the OEM M5 diffuser.

Here's the post of someone who did just pipes:

Thanks for the post, those look great, if the tips I get work (2013M-5 Tips) I would be glad to sell them, if not, I may look into these borla tips, I wonder if anyone has had any problems tying off and plugging the vacuum lines? If you have a 550i, why are you looking for the same tips that came on your car?

I have the 550i M sport with the black tips and black diffuser. I would like the contrast of a chrome against the black diffuser and am hoping to pick up some unwanted stock trapezoid tips cheaper than custom tips. Failing that, I would end up doing a quad tip conversion like described in the post.
Regarding the vacuum line, I asked the dealer if that would be any problem blocking it off or disabling the valve and he confirmed no problems (engine performance or fault codes).
Instead I simply pried open the valve and then zip tied the actuator arm tight and left the hose attached. Accomplished the same thing. Slightly louder but not much.
If I do a quad tip set up, I would just omit the valve anyway. If I find a chrome stock tip, I'll just disable the flap valve as it would probably still be attached.
