Mileage question
Hi everyone, new to this forum. I'm currently searching for a pre-owned F10 xdrive with Msport. I'd prefer a 550i over a 535i, but would be happy with a 535i.
My question to everyone is, how reliable are these cars? I'm really looking for a car with under 30,000 miles, but a dealer near me just got in 2 M Sport cars, a 535i xDrive Msport with 38,000 and a 550i xDrive Msport with 42,000. Both seem a little high, but thought I'd ask your opinion. Both are late build 2011s. Thanks. |

I have a 2012 550 M Sport with 45k miles on it and not a single problem to date!(knock on wood) That said getting an extended warranty would probably be in your best interest especially if you go with a 550.

I have read this forum and others and heard that the 2011's since that was the first new model year build has had some kinks in it. Pulls to the right etc....
I had a 2011 550 with no problems but I turned it in with 18,000 miles. I now have a 2013 550Msport and I will say if you live in an urban area and dont do alot of highway driving I would get a 535. The V8 is a beast. If its not exercised properly.....I drove from Austin to El Paso Texas today averaging speeds of 90-110....smooth as silk....I would never buy a 550 in a city setting.... |

That's good to hear. It looks like the 550 I'm looking at is a mid 2011 build. Clearly going to drive it first though.

The experiences seem to range considerably - some really bad experiences with early 550's and some perfectly fine. I'd personally stay away from them, though - not like TT V8's are BMW's bread and butter. The N63 had the older injectors (which are known to be problematic), too - source of various issues. If I were buying one, I'd get it with lower miles and CPO'd... otherwise, I think the 535 is excellent - the N55 is a solid engine with a great track record.

Thanks. I just saw a cpo 2012 550i Xdrive msport in carbon black with 28,000 miles. The car already had the fuel injectors changed twice according to the service records. Not sure what to do. Really need to drive them both back to back.
