Price My Car?

Hey guys!

Just a quick post - I'm curious to see what you think I can sell my 550i for with the brand new N63 and turbos in it as well as 3 months of CPO warranty remaining. I have the stock M sport wheels in nearly perfect condition with brand new tires, and I have my Niche Misano wheels with brand new tires as well. Has AA exhaust and includes stock exhaust.

I'm asking because even though the body miles are 44,000, the engine/turbos will have only a few miles on them and I'm curious if that can increase value. Obviously something like this is hard to blue book. Open to ideas! Car will be for sale once I get it back from the dealership!

I would suspect a new engine with as few miles as yours could be a detriment. I know I would wonder why... Is it something the owner did or is there a problem with the engine design? Am I going to have the same problem down the road?

Just something to think about.

Yea, unfortunately, that coming into questions will likely lower any offers that you receive. I would just make sure, before putting it up for sale that it's put back to super-duper stock. Not even a mention of the wheels.

Yup it will most likely depreciate the value in the general market. But to the right buyer it would be worth more. So many things have been touched when it comes to an engine replacement, and that makes people worrisome

Can do. I have stock wheels and exhaust. Car has a molded lip on the front bumper so that's not removable, but everything else is. I wouldn't mind parting out everything else.

Right. It has an 'updated' N63, but not the N63Tu, so it shouldn't have the rod bearing issue again. Keyword shouldn't... lol.

As others have others have posted, the new engine will decrease the value of your car. Just the perception more than anything else, that the job wasn't done correctly, it's not the factory engine, the engine will likely fail again, etc. I'm not saying any of these are true, but perception is reality in a lot of cases.

Agree. I think a car with 44K miles has a better perception than one with 44K miles and new engine. 44K miles is not a lot, but it may make other wonder what caused the engine to fail.

I did, and I want to get away from owning 3 cars and get one newer, nicer ride. I really want a 2014+ GT-R with an amber red interior and an Armytrix exhaust lol. Dream car.

Thanks. Hope all goes well. If anything I have no issues keeping my M6 for a while. DDing it the past two weeks has made me fall in more love with the car. And I already own it!

The new engine will decrease the amount of Buyers but should not decrease the price. Does the engine come with a warranty? Who installed it and what happened to the original engine? It will just take you longer to sell because of the lesser amount of Buyers.

What year is your 550?

I have a 2010 535 with 85k miles but it has a new engine from BMW with a 2 year warranty. I put it up for sale on Monday. Got a lot of inquiries about the engine and it was explainable. I also have an excel spreadsheet that lists all maintenance and repairs to prove out the car was kept well and cared for. I had multiple offers within days of posting it and now I am closing next weekend for a price that's decent.

It's a 2011. BMW stopped putting the two year warranties on parts, according to my service advisor (the dealership is putting the engine in) so the engine won't have a warranty, however it'll have the remainder of the CPO warranty.

Wow, that is so odd. I think your service advisor is not correct. Although the Buyer I had lined up backed out, he called the dealership to confirm the warranty. I also called BMW NA to confirm logistics on how the warranty work and if it is transferable. The warranty travels with the VIN but I was told the repair invoice is critical so do not lose it. Give a call to BMW NA and see if you can get more guidance.

anyways, I think you can fetch up to $25k for it depending on other factors, like options and condition.

$25k? Sounds like I'm underwater just slightly lol. It's not very loaded, has ///M Sport package, comfort seats/access, 8 spd tranny, power sunshade, heated front seats. Not too many options. Fantastic condition, though. Previous owner always garaged it and only drove 20k miles in 5 years of ownership. I garage it myself as well. Just patiently waiting for that phone call so I can go pick it up and take it home.
