530d max speed

Hi,

today I have been driving from Koblenz to Bitburg on the German motorway.

As there was not a lot of traffic, and the roads were dry, I have tried to speed up my 530d a bit.

I came to 260km/h , although I thought that bmw has blocked the cars are electronically above 250km/h.

Not for a long distance but a few kilometers is was possible to stay at this speed

Out of curiosity, what tires came on your GT? Were you going downhill when you hit 260km/h?

Also, did you buy the Panoramic sunroof option?

In the USA, it is 'standard' equipment. I'd prefer the extra headroom verses the extra hole in the roof. When they make the diesel available here (hopefully, next year), I plan to order one, and try to get them to build it for me without the sunroof.

Hey

The panoramic sunroof is standard on all F07 / GTs
The top speed on official documents is 149 mph or 240 kmh but I am not sure this can be sustained over great lengths.

My F07 was delivered on Pirelli PZeroes which I was a bit anxious about but now love: great grip in wet and dry

That is not true, not for the 530d GT in Germany.
The list of "Standard" equipment differs greatly from region to region.

A quick check of the BMW German, home country website will show you that many things that are standard in other countries, are a la carte in Germany (including leather). If I remember, the sunroof is a 1400 Euro (plus tax) option there. I would much rather use that money on other performance or safety related things AND gain the extra nearly 2" of headroom. That extra headroom would let me move the seat up from the bottom, which is nice on a long trip.

Hi Satijntje,
Nice that you had chance to test it on unlimited highway.
What you may say about dynamics of 530d?
For sure would be enough from starting. What about from 100 km/h? 130?.......

Well,
I came from an X5, that has about 50 kg more weight and 8 horsepowers less.

For me the F07 is doing fine, I do need need a racing car, and for quick overtaking others its ok for me.

One thing is sure, you buy a five series, but in fact you get a seven with all its luxury.

John

p.s. my next car will be again a GT (maybe a xDrive)

The 530d is about 0.6-seconds slower to 100km/h than the 535i based on the German website data. the 535d is about the same as the 535i and all of these are slower than the 550i. For this slight penalty in acceleration, you get about 35-40% better fuel efficency.

I prefer to be 0.6 sec slower

I'd like to order GT xDrive of 2011. Still not decided about engine. 550i excluded only. Manufacturer's data can't describe feeling, right? Diesel accelerates fine on low but how it doing on 100+...130+..? What is feeling of accel, Motor sound etc?

Thanks for opinion, John. Sure 5GT makes sense of premium.

In the USA, anything over about 75mph is illegal, and even that is pushing it in many places. So, 100mph is somewhat overkill. The turbo on the diesel keeps the torque up over a fair range. Yes, it does not rev as high as the gasoline engines, but with the 8-speed transmission, it keeps it in the power band for a long time. From inside the car, I don't think you'd really notice unless at full throttle. The gasoline powered V-8 probably sounds the best. I've only driven the 550i and 535i, and the 535i sounds thrashy in comparison to the 550i. Now, it's not bad, and on cruise they both are fine as I expect the 530d is. If you want more oomph, the 535d has the power of the 535i and the torque of the 550i, but you pay a penalty in both upfront cost and fuel economy (but still better than any of the gasoline versions).
