- 3 Ton Aluminum Low Profile Jack from Harbor Freight (best jack I've ever own) - Burger Tuning Jack Pad Adapter (without it, you'll tear up your jack pad) - ECS Tuning oil filter cap remover |

Changed mine at around 3500miles over the Xmas holidays. Car was delivered in Sept 2012 and I figured after break-in I'd go ahead and do it. Changed the oil myself and wasn't too much of a problem other than I had the car lowered a bit on H&R Springs and hadn't invested yet in a low profile jack (I have since found Harbor Freight and its great!).
Am an owner of multiple BMW's prior and so I do recommend using or at least reading the Old School Maintenance guide [by Miller] from Roundel/Bimmer magazines. Will save you a heck of a lot of time and pain and then $$ later on. As for the oil change...it defiantly can't hurt my friend.

NP. Make sure the engine is "warm" by touch when you drain the oil. Warm oil drains quicker. Also, you'll need exactly 6.5qt of oil. Just pour 6.25qt first, drive around until the oil reads, and then fill accordingly.

Oil refill Capacity

Interesting enough the owner's manual doesn't list any fluid capacities except for fuel and headlamp/windshield washer fluid! I guess BMW trusts owners to handle those two

Understood, but you'll never be able to drain all 6.9qt out of your engine. 6.25-6.5qt should be appropriate for a refill.
