local tuner promises 80hp and 140lb ft on stock n63

So i reached out to a local performance shop inquiring about their tuning services.

They stated they would increase a stock pre tu n63 by 80hp and 140lb ft.

Is this safe? Anyone heard of such stock tuning claims?

Update: i made an appointment to go to the shop tomorrow morning and talk to the tuner. They say they will be putting the car on the dyno and i should expect at least those numbers for $1100. Is this to good to be true? Am i missing something?

Which shop? Most of the local Phoenix shops use other companies components, with ESS really only being the one to develop stuff in house. That being said, I don’t believe AJ is doing walk ins currently so I don’t think it’s him. I know a few shops off the top of my head I wouldn’t take my car to that just resell other components. If it’s a piggy back, those numbers are unlikely without higher quality fuel. If it’s a true flash, those numbers aren’t unheard of, but it when I had my 2011 n63, tuning wasn’t available.

I ended up giving them a shot. They looked over the car, did some test runs, and then spent a couple hours tweeking things.

Car seems to feel significantly smoother amd more powerful. Boost was increased to 17psi. What is stock boost level? Ive read conflicting information from 10psi to 15psi.

For stock 'Stage 1' tune for those numbers aren't bad. I paid $1500 for Stage 3 for 150hp and 161wtq but I have a couple more mods.

How much will charge you to reflash to a 'Stage 2' or 3 for example? What all does their tune include (burble, speed limit removal, CEL removal, etc)?

I think stock was around 11 or 12lbs but I could be wrong. With JB4 I was pushing 19-21lbs. I haven't opened my car up yet, waiting on some last minute items but I am ready for 27-28lbs by next weekend.

But as long as you are happy with the overall performance then that is all that matters and it's awesome they are local to you and you don't have to ship your DME off. Get some videos and post that beast putting some bus lengths on some cars down there 'neighbor', haha 🏎💥💥💥

So they just did a custom tune. Adjusted fuel trims, boost, and timing as well as removed cat cel. I didnt want them to be too aggressive with the tune for now as i use my car pretty regularly. After i feel confident with how it is perfomring right now, i may opt to go back and have them be more aggressive.

But so far, I am ver pleased. It pulls very hard and smoothly. Seems like the power just keeps coming. If i could change anything, i would have them focus on lowend power.

You can always add the JB4 back to your I car and setup a custom map, map 6 I think, where you can add boost lower in the RPM range and then you would be WMI ready as well.

I am just now starting to build my custom maps to add a little more power at the top end RPM range to help with the small dip I have (I think everyone's powers tapers off after 5500-6500). I think I am on the verge of traction issues if I add to much more on the low end. But JB4 would allow you to adjust on the fly from your phone, versus laptop+cable that many other piggybacks do. I could just be full of shit b/c I actually don't know much outside of JB4, 🤣😂
