Need Some Serious Wheel Help
Hi Guys, I have always come on here to get some car advice and this is the first time it has been so serious that I had to post, so hopefully someone will be kind enough to help me out.
I have a 2013 BMW 535GTXI. It came with the MSport package and the following wheels-tires: Front: 20" x 8.5", 5 Lug, 120mm Bolt Pattern, 25mm Offset - 245/40/20 Rear: 20" x 10", 5 Lug, 120mm Bolt Pattern, 41mm Offset - 275/35/20 I am up in Canada so needed a set of winters. Trying to be cheap I bought a used set of wheels (in the summer) and tires from a 2007 BMW 750i on classifieds. Thinking the GT and the 7 series are similar they would work. Also it was the size my BMW dealer recommended as a winter tire package: 245/50/18. The wheels the 245/50/18 tires are on are OEM BMW wheels and have the following size: Front/Rear: 18" x 8", 5 Lug, 120mm Bolt Pattern, 24mm Offset - 245/50/18 I am out of the country for work and my brother went to friend to get the tires swapped as its getting cold in Canada. After the guy put the tires on he though something was odd. When my brother tried to move the car it wouldn't budge (He stopped after trying for a second). After inspecting the car they realized the tires are rubbing against the inside of the car. Pretty frustrated. Its hard trying to help with car problems when you cant be there physically yourself. I guess its my mistake for not doing more research when I bought the used set of wheels/tires. So 2 questions for you guys please: 1) What can I do to make the used set fit on my car or do I have to abandon them all together? 2) What offset would the 245/50/18 wheels that BMW sells as part of their winter tire package probably be? Thanks for reading and hopefully offering some advice! |

This is weird. Since the OEM winters for you 5 GT is 18x8 ET30, and the wheels you got from the 750i are ET24, yours will stick out 6mm more and that should not cause promblems.

Odd. I have 245/50 x 18" tires on 8" rims as my winter tire/wheel configuration and am not even close to rubbing. I don't know the offset of my winter wheel, but the math from your winter wheel puts the plane of the outer rim of your 18" wheel less than 2mm farther out than a 8.5" wheel with 32mm offset (the latter being the spec for a stock 19" x 8.5" wheel that is standard on F10 MSport xDrives). I'm having a hard time understanding why your tire is rubbing.
Is it possible that your 18" wheels are rubbing on your brake calipers? I don't know if your F07 has the same sizes brakes as an F10 so this might be a possibility.

If the issue is the wheels are not clearing your brake calipers, a set of spacers should resolve it. That could also resolve it if the issue is the tire hitting the inner components of the suspension. A close visual inspect should reveal the issue.
