The 535xi definitively needs to be driven in 100% sport mode ... the 550xi is no slouch ... it isn't "necessary" ... but for me ... I like that fun factor ... so I always do
Driving the 550xi in sport mode when you actually want to drive more comfortably is tough. The car just wants to rocket all the time. I drive in Comfort mode when I'm driving casually to keep things easy. I've found that stomping on the pedal makes it go in a real hurry regardless of the mode if you needed... And man is that fun!

Or... you may just like driving hard 100% of the time, in which case you just need to live with the MPGs.
How do you tailor sport mode to only change the chassis settings? I prefer the stiffer feel of the Sport mode but would like to keep the engine in comfort mode to reserve gas for most periods.

There's a menu somewhere in iDrive - would have to sit in the car to find it. But just flip through your iDrive under "settings" and you should find it. If you have DHP, you'll see two boxes you can "tick" for each driving dynamics mode:

1. Drivetrain
2. Chassis

By default with DHP cars both are checked. If you only want the stiffer suspension in Sport mode, just de-select the "Drivetrain" box.

The ECO Pro mode also allows you to configure many more settings, such as whether to taper the air conditioner, heated mirrors, etc. All other dynamic drive modes, however, will just give you the above two options.

I agree. I have a 535i and use Sport/Sport+ a LOT, mostly just to get the decent throttle response. It'd be even better if it could have a mode with just the good throttle response (or, duh, have that be the default), and not even the more aggressive gearing. I just hate that in Comfort you have to use half the gas pedal travel to get the car to move, hence Sport most of the time for me.

I was looking to see if there was a JB for the N63TU - doesn't look like one is available yet. The N63 JB only seemed to provide moderate gains in contrast to what's possible on the N54 and N55 motors.

The lighting package is nice - but I don't think it's the best bang for the buck. The LED lights are crisp and clear, a bit more than HIDs, and the auto highbeams are useful if you drive in conditions where you need them often. But otherwise, I wouldn't recommend people get it unless you're just out of other options to add.

Out of all the options I got (and I pretty much loaded the car except for B&O and night vision), I probably appreciate the lighting package the least.

Case in point today - the active seats got used on a nice long drive. The driver assistance features along with ACC got heavily used. The DHP got heavily used, enjoying comfort and sport suspension modes. The lighting? Nope.

Honestly, they look nice. The LEDs are eye catching, and if you're on really dark roads, I think you can tell the difference from HIDs from the driver's seat. But otherwise in more urban environments where there's other sources of light at night, you really just don't notice the difference. I think they're more interesting to the people looking AT your car at night than for you sitting behind the wheel.

So yeah, like I said, I think they probably have the least measurable impact on the way I enjoy the car and its features... but I'm glad I have them, nonetheless!
