Car does not stay in gear, does not move

It behaves just like it does when one door is open and you try to drive.

I put it in DRIVE. It goes right back to PARK.

All doors, trunk, engine lid are confirmed closed.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

Thank you.

My best guess is a bad sensor and the car somehow thinks a door is open.

Does it give you the same warning in idrive as if a door was open?

BMW transmissions shift back into park when it senses an issue that would cause damage to itself (low fluid, etc)

My 2011 allows you to select any gear you want with the door open. When you start moving, depending on the direction and if your seat belt is fastened it may let you creep or slam you into P displaying big warnings about securing the car against rolling with the door open.

Simply clicking back to P is not "door open" behaviour, so I would personally not invest further time into looking into door-related stuff.

You might need to get the systems read by ISTA-D or similar to know what's really going on.

You have a broken seal in your shifter/transmission. Friend if mine had the same issue. It cost him $400 at local shop, not a dealer

I should have said broken seal in a shifter gear somewhere. Not an expensive fix. Good luck
