Newly painted front bumper?

For those of you that had your front bumper painted. Anyone ask for extra clear coat for more protection?
I ask because I'm planning to replace my bumper for M-Tech style. I plan to have it covered in clear vinyl but I know I need to wait at least 4 weeks for paint to fully cure before doing so. In the mean time I don't want rock chips so I'm thinking if maybe asking for extra clear coat would help.

Any thoughts on this?

Yes if your changing to a different front bumper you should paint it and leave off car. Then when the paint is ready apply the clear bra and have installed on car after the fact. Why do it all over to risk the chips for 3-4 weeks?

True thats one way of doing it. I'll most likely just not drive it and drive my other vehicle in the mean time. I guess if I get the urge to drive it I'll drive in very slow trafic like around town.
Oh well I guess no one add extrac clear coat.

The only time I've seen extra clear or a thicker clear is on cars with custom paint jobs.(10k+) The reason they do this with high end paint jobs is so the paint can be worked and polished out to perfection without compromising the protection the clear is meant to have. And it's truly not that much more protection that would keep rocks from chipping it. Good luck with it.

Extra clear won't help with chips.

Extra clear chips just as easy. We install paint film every day in my shop and it is virtually impossible to install while bumper is off the car.. Just wait it out and film after 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for the info.. Do you guys apply the film
over wax surface or do you guys wash it off?

Don't apply wax prior to getting the paint film installed. It could impact how well the film adheres to the paint.

I wouldn't use a "wax" afterwards, but the film can be polished and sealed just like paint.

its in the brand of clear

depends on what brand of clear the repair shop uses. I cleared mine with Sikkens Superior 250 about 6 months ago and have NO rock chips. I did apply 3 coats of clear as well.
