Oil change!
This is my first time owning a BMW. I bought it in January and have put 2,500 miles on it since then. Should I go ahead and get an oil chance since the dash says it's time for a service? Also the dealer said something about additional filters and a standard scope. Are they needed? Thanks for the help

If the cars telling you it needs an oil change then book it in. The additional filters are the cabin air filters (pollen filters), if you any good with a screwdriver change them yourself as BMW will charge you 30mins to an hour to change them and that isnt cheap in labour. Plenty of places to see how its done i.e. youtube etc. The scope is just to carry out diagnostics on the car this should be included with the oil service.

The dealer here initially told me an oil change would be $149 on my 2012 550i, so I scheduled it with them even though I knew that was over paying. I just wanted them to do the first oil change then do them myself or shop around. When I got there, the oil change suddenly became $129, but a scope and shop fees brought it up to 218. I didn't agree to the higher amount in advance. They didn't budge when I told them I was quoted 149. My rep had conveniently gone to lunch and left my car sitting finished without telling me.
For 60 bucks (price of the "scope") I got the exact same readout that I got for free from Torque pro and a bluetooth OBD device, which only cost me 25 bucks. |

FYI continue changing oil with dealer or DIY if you like saving money if you take to any other shop unless they specialize in European cars your chances are very high them fu(king S#it up
in my opinion not worth saving $40 or $50 for future issues.

Oil change on an f10 is pretty fcking easy, I can knock it out in less than 30min. I got a 550i n63 and using 5w40 Liqui Moly Top Tech & of course OEM oil filter. BMW recommended that you change your oil every 13k to 15k, I did it every 8k, especially N63 engine.
