F10 530d
Hi all will be looking to sell my F10 530d soon as it is too big for my needs. Would be happy to pex with an F30 335d!
62 plate with only 29k miles and fbmwsh still under bmw warranty! How much should I advertise for given lower than average miles. Thankyou |

Go onto webuyanycar, enter your car details : you can enter a false phone number (I use 0777 777 77, which is incomplete), and you can also use a false email address (I use nospam@spam.com), and you'll then get your valuation.
That will undoubtedly be less than you thought it was worth. For a private sale, price it £1k above the WBAC price, check that it's realistic by looking at autotrader, and get it up for sale on there. Do remember that, as a private sale, you need to be cheaper than the cars being sold by garages - buyers have lots of rights against garages, very few on private sales. Be priced the same (or close) as 'retail', and your phone will never ring. |

Really? I would expect any private buyer to haggle and not be happy unless they had knocked 3-5% off. On a car like this, that will lose almost all the margin you have over WBAC and so you might as well save yourself the grief of a private sale.
I agree about the dealer/private thing, though. Many people just don't appreciate how much protection buying from a dealer gives over a private sale. e.g. Effectively a six-month warranty which could well be worth thousands if you are unlucky. |

Thanks for the replies!
Mine is still under bmw warranty so no nasty surprises and peace of mind for any prospective buyers. Also a better warranty than the independent traders whose often have claim limits etc Wbac valued it at £16700..as expected much lower! Il prob look st putting it on for £18.5k Ono and take it from there.. |

Have a look at this : http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/5-Series/3...cmdc=se_na_re_ A 2012/12, so a few month older than your car. 46k miles. 530d Msport saloon, pro nav, adaptive lights, overall a decent spec. Price : £17,995 Comes with 12 months AUC warranty, BMW Assist for 12 months, the dealer can offer part-ex, finance, etc, etc. And that is buying from a BMW dealer, and they're notorious for being expensive. From an independent dealer you'd look to get it a bit cheaper. The WBAC price that you've been given is actually quite generous, I think. You really would need to price it under 18k to garner any interest, and even then a buyer is going to try to chip you on it. |

You just picked up the lowest one on there. Has grey leather hence the lower price plus lesser spec and more mileage! I'm in no rush as genuinely like the car. But thanks for taking your time to reply.

It's an excellent point.
Look at your local BMW franchise. Dozens of used BMWs, at tens of thousands each, all quietly hemorrhaging money 24 hours a day. It's not just the free coffee which means they have to offer what owners consider insulting sums for their pride and joys. |

Hi yes thanks for the replies. I'm going to take your comments into consideration and put it up for £18k which is approx 1k above wbac. Any less it's not worth the hassle of private sale etc. Im after a 335d x drive if anyone interested in a swap!

I have a 550i (F10 LCI) and have owned a 540i (E39). I'm happy to answer any questions if you are thinking of buying one.
Main drawbacks are that they are so hard to find second hand. There are currently none in AUC and that is the normal state of affairs. BMW sell 20-40 new ones a year so you have to be patient. It took me 9 months to find one and the only things I was fussy about was M-sport, LCI and black leather. This means that when you finally do find one you aren't in much of a position to haggle. Don't buy the pre-LCI 550 (407 bhp) as the engine has had a lot of issues in the uSA (where they sell loads of them). The newer engine (449 bhp) seems to have fixed the problems. Something that may be a plus or a minus, depending on you, is that it looks just like a 520d. Without badges, there are only 2 external differences so no-one knows that the car is so fast. I love this but plenty of people would prefer some more visual goodies. Plus points. It is fast. Really, really fast. Spins the wheels at 50 mph if it's a bit damp. Squirms a bit sometimes when you pull out to overtake. You get the idea. It's got more torque than a 535D and nearly 50% more power, so you can imagine. Before I bought the car I had looked at a couple of companies offering remaps but I abandoned the idea the first time I floored it. It's not that expensive to run. Road tax is 290, Insurance less than 300 (I'm 52 and the industry don't look at it as a performance car). I get 26 mpg in the winter and 27 mpg in the summer. All the bits for it are pretty much the same as for any 5-series with only the extra expense of some things being doubled up (2 air-filters, 8 spark-plugs etc.). Mine is just coming up to 3 and I have purchased the BMW warranty for another year for 581. Second hand ones come well specced. The people that buy these when new are not penny-pinchers. Mine came with 11k worth of options which had basically devalued to almost nothing by 18 months. They are (relatively) cheap. Although money was no object to the original owner, second-hand buyers are very wary of cars that cost a fortune when new. They are concerned they will continue to cost a fortune when they own them. Over 9 months, I looked at 5 or 6 cars on AUC and basically they were for sale at 50% of their "new" price at 18 months old. Hope the above helps. I'm afraid I don't know about resale. When I like cars I keep them for a long-time so it doesn't matter much to me. I sold the 540i when it was 12 years old. If you are thinking of selling after a couple of years it could be risky. The problem is that there are so few for sale it is very hard to determine what prices they are fetching. |

It's Azurite Black and was taken as a trade-in in Durham.
As someone who has owned an M5 and a 550, could you answer me a question? I appreciate that an M5 handles and drives better and that, round the Nurburgring, it is significantly faster than a 550. But, on the road, day-to-day is it noticeably faster? |

Test drive the 3 Series extensively first. It's really going to feel like a downgrade once the additional performance novelty wears off

I am guessing he has gone for no Emergency Service and a £250 excess to get that - it's about £900 for the full package with low or no excess.

Given that a 550 has twice as many pistons, con-rods, turbos and cam-shafts as a 4-cyl model, that's quite a surprise. You would have thought that the chance of a big engine-failure were pretty much double. Maybe big-engine failures hardly happen anyway but, anecdotally, turbos seem to be hardly trouble-free. |
