Bmw app (6nr) has to be added to specs when you bought the car.
After that enabling it can be complicated.
Car on 2010-11 (never updated by bmw) can be activated by coding.
Car afterward having cic, you'll have to use companies like bimmer retrofit.
Cars with nbt, you can enable it by flashing it with different vin which has 6nr already. And inserting fsc codes for them.
However then your car and nbt will have mismatched vin number and you'll require emulator to resolve that.
Lastly, I had it enabled on my e90 and now on f10. I enjoy it when its a matter of coding but cannot justify £250 plus to have apps (especially when bmw has taken out facebook in their recent app update).

i have the phone rest & usb slot in the armrest

Check with your VIN number... or send you VIN number and I will find out.

The biggest benefit I see for Connected drive is RTTI. Its saved me countless hours by not getting me in to traffic jams.
It will be the main reason I will renew mine when it expires shortly.

The other benefits are icing on the cake.

Do you have to enable the RTTI somewhere? Before I signed up to connecteddrive services I was getting traffic info I assume over radio? Obviously the RTTI info is more advanced so would like to enable this, if it's possible on my CIC pro nav?

You will need to sign up if its not already enabled.first 3 yrs of car are covered (i assume that covers change of owner??) after which it is i think £120 per year to cover that and the mobile data card in the car. Without it it drops back to TMC. Google rds-tmc for full info.

I know bmw just recently revamped their wrbsite but worth ringing them for help .

Addjng to this when i got my car back in may 2012 , rtti was very new and it took a while before i was set up on connected drive and then got rtti working
My subscription states it due for renewal in august so i seem to be getting a little more than the initial 3 years
