My girlfriend has an e60 and always tells me her car doesn't idle like that and something is wrong, I tell her it's my "hard on" she's feeling when I get behind the wheel of this beast! Ok guys, I did my plugs and had my car at the dealer for the fuel pump recall within the last 2 weeks. I first had the HPFP replaced under the recall, my SA said my car probably didn't need it and Im only maybe preventing a problem in the future. Well he was wrong, my car had a rough idle which bugged the crap out of me and my car had a crazy harmonic vibration under a long hard acceleration. I'm happy to report the vibration under acceleration is gone after the fuel pump replacement and it only slightly helped with the rough idle. This past Saturday my plugs showed up early and I put them in and my rough idle is gone, my car has 56k and the plugs had never been changed. So if your car falls under the HPFP recall get it to the dealer and get it done, even if your car runs good you may not know you have a problem till its replaced. I bought my car used and thought it was a worn drive shaft dampner causing the vibration and I thought it was injectors causing the rough idle, I was wrong on both. This my not be the case for everybodys car but it was only $76.66 for the plugs and the fuel pump was free and a little bit of my time for both, if your car has a rough idle this is where I would start.

I'm trying to get my HPFP replaced but the SA says it's only certain build dates . Mines 4/10 . Wonder if mine is less likely to go bad since they aren't covering it?

I can only add 1 pic at a time and I'm not covering the easy parts like removing and reinstalling the plugs. This will only help you get acces to the coil packs and then to the plugs.

You will need a thin walled bmw spark plug socket for these pugs, I used a 15mm that I had to grind down to make it fit.

First you remove the air box...

You remove the bmw engine cover it just unsnaps, then loosen the hose clamps on the air box inlet and then up clip the retainer on the front of air box where the Orange rubber mount is.

Then remove air box pull up to unsnap from mounting points and you'll have to maneuver it back and up to get it to detach from air inlet ducting.....

Next remove coil from what ever plug you want to start with, I did mine one at a time and started in the middle

To unhook plug from coil just lift up on left side and the plug slides out to the left

Next remove plugs and replace with new. I took my air box apart and removed charcoal filters while I had them out. I also shook out my air filters to rid them of dirt and debris.

FYI,
My plugs came already gapped.
