Just had my car coded

All,

I've got a F11 2012 520d Auto and had it coded yesterday.

I can now read e-mails and texts in full on the move.
The fog lights come on with the welcome lights.
The headlights don't come on as DRL's, just the LED angel rings (my lights are halogen).
The stop/start automatically remembers the state is was previously in rather an defaulting to always on.
The dash now displays the gear I am in when I put the auto box in 'S' mode, ie S1/S2 etc, rather than just 'S'. (PS ths is the regular auto box rather than the sports auto box).

And I can also bring up this nifty little graphic on the central screen telling me what bhp and Nm the car is producing.

Sincere thanks to the chap that did this for me.

I like the graphic on the idrive, does this affect your warranty I wonder, and do you mind telling the cost, & how you went by doing this, i.e. can this be done remotely and all?

Thanks for sharing this.

Can't see how it would affect the warranty as these are standard BMW functions that BMW make active or inactive for different global markets. All the coding is already in the cars software.

Cost - Zero. I just found a person on the forum who was prepared to do it for me.

If you are an intelligent chap with computers (I'm not), more details are here.

Maybe you can start the coding movement in Ireland?!?

If I ask to enable this during the next service, will the BMW dealer do it for me?

I'm fairly sure they won't

Go over to the coding section and see if any contributors live near you.

Good luck.

Was it someone from this forum that coded your car? I would not mind paying someone to do it for me, let alone have it done for free...

I am based in Hampshire; and will code your car for free. No Charge.

If you are around the area, give me a shout and I'll do it and teach you.

The dealer will not do this for you, and if you have it done privately, if the dealer ever updates the car's software, the coding will be wiped out. Oh well. That is the incentive to learn how to do it yourself. A complete thread on this subject over on F30POST. Many very helpful people.

Coding is pretty straight forward, once you are setup. There are a lot of knowledgable members in this forum and others who will be willing and able to help you through it.

I am not that confident doing it myself, and I have not noticed anyone living anywhere near me and available to help. I guess I have to sit this one out...
