F10 Colors

I currently have an 2007 Audi A8 in Platinum Beige Pearl Effect, with Black/Amaretto leather/Alcantara interior and Sycamore wood.

Yesterday, I ordered a 2011 535i to replace it. Liking the look of the Audi, I picked Milano Beige Metallic, with Cinnamon Brown/Black Dakota Leather (Alcantara is not available), and Light Wood. The dealer had no cars with any of these finishes available, so I just went by swatches in the printed brochure.

I have two questions:

1) Can anyone who's seen both color sets (or even components of them) comment on how close the Bimmer will look to the Audi colors?

2) BMW does not recommend either Cinnamon leather or Light Wood with Milano Beige. Anybody know why?

1) The BMW Milano Beige is darker and more gold orange/brownish I would say.

2) Simply because it wouldnīt go very well togheter. The colors would probably clash.

By the way have you looked at Cashmere silver metallic. This color have just been made available from June production, which is probably the reason no one have mentioned it. Itīs a much more subtle color than Milano Beige.

Cashmere silver is also the launch color for the 5-series touring. Some early launch/press photos of the touring have previously been mislabeled as Milano Beige on some sites including this one.

The light wood is going to look terrible with the Cinnamon Brown Leather in the opinion of this architect. In general Cinnamon Brown looks best with Black Sapphire and Anthracite and maybe Sophisto Gray. I do not like Cinnamon Brown and Milano Beige. IMO they clash. Veneto Beige Leather with the Light Wood would look beautiful with the Milano Beige Metallic. Black leather with a dark wood trim would also look beautiful with Milano Beige.

You can go the BMW NA website. Select your color and finish choices. Go to the interior view looking through the driver's door. Enlarge the photo so that it fills the web page. Look at the exterior metal color of the door jamb against the leather. That is a realistic view of how the colors will look together.

Also Cashmere Silver is quite beautiful.

Thanks for the advice. I see I may have to rethink things. Assuming the brochure chips are reasonably accurate (not always a good assumption) I made some comparisons.

Exterior color

The first picture is the overall look I have now.

The next shows how the interior and exterior colors match (the interior color is the Alcantara on the rear deck).

The next is a comparison of the present color with the selections in the brochure. Milano Beige is indeed slightly darker and much more chromatic, making it look more "gold". As you have pointed out, this is not a subtle look. Cashmere silver is lighter and much closer to neutral.

Interior colors

The next picture shows the interior leather chips in the shade against the Ameretto. Cinnamon Brown is substantially darker.

The same result happens in the sun.

The next picture compares the wood choices. Sycamore is redder and more deeply patterned than light wood, since it's cut from a burl.

Overall, I am now thinking that I will abandon my plan to try to match what I've got and go with Cashmere Silver, Venetian Beige, and Dark Wood.

Thanks for helping me think this through.

You can see examples of Dark Wood with Cinn Brown interior in my thread here. Judging by the picture you posted of your interior, Cinn Brown is probably the closest to what you have. But it'll be a little darker and more brown than what you have.

Honestly, I would have liked your interior color better. Sadly, it doesn't exist for the F10.

How about a Mojave exterior? That's sorta like Beige, but a little darker. That would probably look good with Cinn Brown. Overall it would be darker than your current car. But still look pretty nice.

Thanks for the pix of Cinnamon Brown and Dark Wood. The Mojave is too dark for me. I have a half-mile of chipseal driveway, the color of which you can see in the first pic I posted, and I don't want to have to wash the car all the time.

If you are able to hold out i will post pics of Cashmere Silver/Oyster by the end of this week or next week:

Which is when the car we ordered should arrive at the dealership.

SE135i,

Thanks for the offer. I can wait; I don't even have a build slot scheduled yet. I like the idea of Oyster, because it means I could get the soft leather. However, I'm worried about my jeans staining it.

Jim, I LOVE the Audi's Amaretto interior and wanted the same for my 535, so I had ordered the Cinnamon Brown sight unseen, based only on the online configurator. I had a chance a few days later to see the color in real life and... it does not look ANYTHING like it does in the brochure. It is more like a tobacco brown. It may be a nice color in itself if you like a tobacco brown, but I wanted the orangy-tone of the Amaretto, which is completely different.

Needless to say, I called the dealership immediately to change the interior to oyster/black (sophisto gray exterior), even when that meant re-scheduling for production and losing about 10 days. After seeing the Gray with oyster/black interior, I'm glad I did the change!!!

Alex,

I'm with you on the Amaretto. I especially like it with the even-redder Sycamore. Sounds like we both decided to bail on the idea of doing something similar in our new 5ers.

SE 135i,

I got a call from my salesperson this morning. He got a Week 27 slot and needed to lock up the configuration, so I went with the Cashmere/Venetian Beige/Dark Wood combination. I hope you like your Oyster leather.

Silver/Beige sound like good colors. I like the Beige, too. The only reason I went with Cinnamon Brown on my F10 was because my last car was a 335i that was Monaco Blue/Beige. I was looking for something a little different. I really like that interior color of your Audi; I with BMW had a color like that on the F10.

Actually, I like the waiting. Who was it who said "Expectation and revery are better than actuality"? I don't buy that in all circumstances, but it makes the day a little brighter to think about the new car.

In the meantime, I'm driving a car that I've loved for four years, and would drive for four more if it weren't for a combination of automotive boredom and a desire for better handling in the twisties.
