@Mark: Wow....I think that is a bit more difficult way to do it...He could open in Camera RAW:

-50 - exposure
100 - recovery
15 - fill light
10 - Blacks
15 - Brightness
35 - contrast
15 - clarity
0 - Vibrance
-50 - Saturation

Open it up in PS, levels and then do your black point (sky), white point(street lamps)
voila...no green, red or whatever lamps.

Not bad. I tried those settings and they do a better job with the street lights, but the color range seems flatter. I think I'd go with two copies to use in RAW and use your method for the second copy instead, then layer and mask and bring out the street lights from your version. But as with all things, it's a matter of personal preference. I think the screen you work on has a lot to do with what looks good as well. My laptop (which I'm using now) always makes images look brighter. Then I upload them and look at them later on my work PC's screens and I think, "Blech! WTF happened to my image?"

It might have been CS5 or LR3. Too long ago and can't remember.
1. graduated filter across all lights and worked on brightness, contrast and exposure
2. Went to overall clarity,vibrance,blacks,exposure.
3. Adjusted red,orange,yellow,green and blue
4.Sharpening on all 4 sliders
5. Nicked off a tad of luminance noise reduction.

I'm really a crappy hack at PS/LR and move sliders around to my liking. If you want the original settings I used can someone let me know how to get them?

I like that, bright city to black cliffs then off to a great sunset.
Kind of like a panoramic triptych.

Don't think I've ever seen a bad pic of that island. Surely one of the most picturesque places on earth. The pics above do it justice. Very nice.

I don't have any more night shots ...but

Here's the set if you'd like to look around. The first one is one of my favorite shots I've ever taken and really need to get it printed poster size some day.

Agreed, that first pic is really nice. Looks like the boat was just begging to be shot with a camera.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, very good travel photos.
Unfortunately you are suffering from dust on the lens or sensor. I think it was on the lens.

Is that the dark spots seen in the pictures?

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, I didn't have my cleaning kit in Greece and didn't really notice until I got back.

More like round shadows than spots.
Just clone them out in PP. The locations of them make it easy and I think it will make a more stunning pic.

Just think how it would look if you were using the 18-55 kit lens fromCanon
Actually if you do it right and not end up at the extremes of the apertures on the kit lens, the pictures will come out very nicely as you have demonstrated.

I have some nice ones from my 18-55 and it only cost me $40

Well, I'm a little happier with tonight's results...here's a couple shots.

PNC Park and 5 Bridges.

And another shot of the city...

they look good man...

one thing i might mention (because i don't know of your lenses) try sampling a few different aperture settings from F11 all the way up to 20. at 20 you may be losing image quality again. A lot of people believe that from about F8 to about F16 tends to be the best on lenses. So you may even improve your results. You just have to learn each lens individually.

Besides, depending how patient you are, you'll drop your wait time down, or even brighten the picture more, depending what you're after

But they look really good, i love the reflection you grabbed in the water!
