I suspect Chris Bangle still had a significant say in this car - he was still there when they were in the thick of its design and it carries a large number of the styling cues he introduced.

I think this is one of the best looking BMW saloons ever. My previous favourite was the E34 by i think the F10 is now. The proportions are spot on and the interior and exterior are miles better than the E60 (the interior of which i have never liked).

Every time that I am about to jump boat to Audi they always make things exciting at the right moment....Very interesting elegant and yet muscular design, sophisticated nonetheless.

Bravo BMW

Beautiful. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I am partial to the E39 over the E60, I see a return to some of the styling cues of the E39 that were dropped when the E60 came on line. The clean horizontal lines down the sides, and the balance of proportions seem to be back that made the E39 more aggressive (and yet mature) in my humble opinion. This new 5-series is now on my wish list!

This is quite comprehensive information set. It is interesting that the High Precision Injection of fuel is used; we shall see soon if the high pressure fuel pump problem shall persist.

I really really hated this car from all the pics and videos I saw. But I went to a BMW dealer on Saturday and saw it in person. Boy did I fall in love. I absolutely have to have this car now. It looks amazing in the flesh.

Am I correct that the new 5er does not offer rear-side airbags, either as standard or as optional equipment? It seems very strange in these days to eliminate such an important safety item (and btw, I do understand that those with small children may not want these airbags).

I didn't either? When can we expect to see them at the dealerships here in the U.S.?

Staggered fitment on 2007 525xi

Does having STAGGERED 20 inch rims on the 07' 525xi effect driving? Is it recommended to put 20x8.5 (front), and 20x10 (rear) without ANY issues with ride and the AWD setup?

Had my 535i for 3 weeks/1000 miles. Went on a long trip today, returned and put car in garage. 1/2 hour later I was going out to the store and the car wouldn't start (turned over but wouldn't start). Warning came up the Chasis Stabilization Malfunction". Had to call Assist and they will tow it to dealer in the a.m. Anyone else have this problem?

You know how the 550i goes from 0-60 in 5 seconds?

Well, during the BMW Driving Event, I decided to test drive the 550i, and me and my friend decided to try out the acceleration. I had it on Sport Mode, and I was at a complete stop. When my friend said go and hit the stop watch, I gunned it. I was looking at the Heads Up Display, and once it reached 62 mph, i said Stop!

The time that I got: 6.4 seconds.

What-the-fuck?

Did I do something wrong? Was his timing off?

I remember the guy at the dealership said that BMW will always overshoot the numbers, so in case it doesn't come anywhere near that number, people won't be allowed to sue or something. [Just like how the 335i sedan says 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, but people are able to get times like 4.8] Yeah, the same goes with the 5 series.

If BMW is claiming 5.0 seconds, then people should be able to get times close to 5 seconds and even under.

But the time I got was nearly 1.5 seconds off. Why?

And yes, I did floor the pedal, and again, it was in sport mode. Maybe i didn't turn off the traction control? I donno.

isn't it far easier to use the idrive onboard trip computer to calculate the times?
