F10 pulling to the right...

Hello,

I ordered my Dark Graphite 535i in early April and took delivery on June 17. The car is fantastic and I love everything about it. But...since the day I took delivery, my car has been pulling to the right. The sales manager was telling me that it is a 'known issue' and that both of his demo cars pull to the right as well. Initially, he said it was an 'upper control arm' issue.

The service department is now telling me that BMW is aware of this known issue, but does not have a solution for it yet. So I have to sit and wait.

I read these boards regularly and I don't think I've seen anyone else complain about this issue. Does anyone have this same problem? Also, does anyone have some advice for me as to how I should handle this? Do I sit and wait for the fix? Do I have a lemon?

Thanks.

I have the same problem with my F10 535i but I am in Canada. I just made a service appointment for next Thursday. I hope that is just an alignment issue.

R Mak, Hopefully you will have better luck than I've had with it. An alignment correction didn't fix the issue for me. It's odd, my car is 'aligned,' but it still pulls to the right. I think that is why the sales manager thinks an adjustment (or replacement) needs to be made to the upper control arm.

By the way, the dealership's 2 demo cars are a 535i and a 550i. So it doesn't appear to be an issue with just the 535i.

I noticed the same thing. It's not really bad, but I do notice it. I also noticed it on a 330 I had years ago, and at that time I was told that they were designed to pull to the right so that if I accidentally let go of the steering wheel, the car would veer to the right and away from oncoming traffic. Ok. Yeah.

Garage List
Mine may pull slightly to the right. Hard to tell. I though this was somewhat normal because roads are typically slightly slanted out to help move water off to the outside when it rains.

Ridiculous. The cars should go straight, even on a crowned road, without steering input. BMW will have to fix that, I'm guessing. Maybe they can make the software constantly apply the brakes on the left side. (Just kidding.)

My first thought was also the slant in the road, but that's definitely not the case with my situation. The pull is actually quite significant. If I let my hands off the wheel, I will drift into the lane next to me rather quickly.

I sure hope they come up with a solution quickly. This can't be good on my tires!

YES! I took delivery of my 535 last Saturday and noticed it was pulling quite hard to the right as of Monday (this week). I haven't called or gone back down to the dealership but I'm interested now what they will do to fix it being that others are experiencing the same issue!

I would like to have it fixed before I put new wheels/tires/springs on since I don't want them to tell me it's the new set up!

Interresting.

I just thought/had the idea my steering wheel was just 1 tiny 'click' degree/whatever offset to the left. But maybe it is this issue.
I'll make an appointment this monday with my dealer.

I am in Toronto, and mine was also pulling badly to the right. I took it in for service and was told the the rear tire was out of spec. They did alignment and tire rotation and told me it was fine. It is a lot better but I still feeling it pull to the right, it is beginning to drive me crazy and I am thinking of taking it back for service.

Very interesting, thanks for the info jc031662. Hopefully the tech rep you spoke with is right...I would love for this to be fixed within the next couple of weeks!

From what I've seen thus far, this problem seems almost exclusive to North America, though why that's the case really doesn't make much sense -

535 Pulling

I also just purchased a 2011 535I and mine pulls to the right significantly. I have had it in the Svc dept twice to only be told that it will work itself out. Alignment is ok; they put a camber in which didn't help - said they adjusted tire pressure, but still not fixed... I called the Service Mgr and mentioned these posts and specifically the one about the software update. He said nothing has been communicated from BMW in reference to this. jc031662 - what BMW svc tech told you this?? from what dealer?? I would like to reference if possible! thank you!

I'm also experiencing the problem with my new 535. Can I get the details of who you had spoken with?

Thanks!

Is this isolated to F10 535i only? It seems like all the posters have the 535i.

I don't have an F10 but I do have a E92 335i coupe and we also have a 2010 E70 X5 xDrive30i. My 335i has always had a slight pull to the right even after having new tires installed, many alignments done and there doesn't seem to be a fix for it what so ever. When we first got our X5 I noticed the steering wheel was off center to the left a few degrees to keep the SAV going straight down a flat normal road. We made an appointment with Fields BMW and they checked it out. They tried to do an alignment but they said the front right upper control arm was "binding". They had that part replaced and now the X5 has a centered steering wheel and no pulling what so ever.

I also have had other BMW 3-series (two E46 models) and those also always pulled to the right with the steering off center to the left.

Just food for thought.
