TPMS Info

Just changed over to snow tires on my 2016 535XI. These tires were mounted on wheels and were used on my previous 2012 535XI. The tire shop indicated that the TPMS sensors in the wheels were not compatible with the 2016 and I'd get a warning light.

I did a reset and drove home, about 5 miles. So far I don't think I'm getting a warning light, but it may just be too early.

Does anyone have any information on the TPMS sensors. The new ones indicated actual pressure on the vehicle info display. The new ones do not seem to, but may still be resetting. All 4 tires show as green on the display.

I'm looking for any info on compatibility (2012 vs 2016).

Thanks

I don't know the specific date, but I know they changed the TPMS pretty soon after the f10 came out. I think they switched closer to 2010/2011 though, I'm sure someone with the exact date will chime in soon

Check on realoem with your Vin number, that's what I did to get the correct part number. I also checked with my local BMW dealer so I was sure the part numbers were correct. I ended up getting my TPMS (BMW OEM) from a German company at half the price on Ebay.

@nhrider , PM me the last 7 of your VIN, and I'll check it for you.

Turns out the old TPMS sensors are fine. No warning light and they indicate actual pressure on each tire. I know there was a change around 2011/2012 but I must have the later sensors.

Interesting, I thought there was another change around 2014 or so.

There are detailed discussions all over the place but no solid answers. I just bought take offs from a 2016 car for mine and they are working just fine.

It is a bit of a nightmare I found that out. There are generation 1 and 2 valves also and I have noticed my valves are made by Alligator a German valve manufacturing company. I only found out but checking the name on the valve dust cover.
