Thanks. Are they welded or clamped on? My car is still 25 days away but I am trying to figure out what I can do with the tips.

I will start looking for some larger (4"-5") chrom tips with 2 1/4" inlet that can be welded. I don't want any added noise and will go for cosmetic change only.

Have you considered going quad tip? A lot of the guys have done that with great results (me included see: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685790).

Quads look awesome, but I don't know any good shops here in NJ, that can install quads and cut the diffuser perfectly.

Please keep us informed on this mod. I've been thinking of switching to a 4" Crome tips and replacing the center silencer (resonator) for a cross pipe for a better exhaust sound.

I believe you can get the 550 Diffuser(which has a bigger opening)and you won't need to cut anything(all depending of course on the size of the tips you get). anything over 4" would look ridiculous on a stock 5 series. Also you can get the m5 diffuser but then you will need to modify the mufflers and possibly move them back as the tips will stick out to much. Do keep in mind the length of the tips, as most aftermarket tips are way longer than factory.

From what I remember the diffuser only works with msport bumpers. So if the OP has msport he is good to go otherwise I think you need to cut or change the bumper. Someone please correct ot verify my statement.

You are correct, the only way to change the diffuser is if you have the M-sport package. Judging by the op's avatar picture it looks like he doesn't have that option.

How about the standard 550 non-Msport diffuser? How wide is the opening for the oval standard tips?

IMHO if you're going to spend money buying the 550 rear bumper might as well buy the M-sport so you can change diffusers when ever you want to. For what I've seen the 550 bumper can accommodate a dual exhaust tips with no problem but I don't know the dimensions for the exhaust opening.

Logical. As much as I love the front bumper design, I am not a fan of the rear M-Sport bumper though. That's why I am trying to find a way around it.
And i have just seen the eisenmann double 102mm (4") exhaust setup online and the single 4" tips on each side looked too bulky. Maybe because it was a touring.

Can someone please help me verify whether F10 exhaust tips are clamped/screwed on or welded on? I got confused by the discussion in this thread. (and according to realoem, 535i looks like it has slip on tips.) Also anyone know where I can find inlet diameters to all other F10 models? Thanks in advance.

It depends on the model. The 550i are welded, the 535i are slip on. On the 520d it looks like it might be slip on's.

I removed the tips on my 535 by twisting it and the pulling it, they're only secure by 3 pressure clamps.

Do you know the length of the tips?

Let's make sure we are talking apples and apples. The exhaust tips (covers) are clipped on to the tail pipes (slides over) on the 535 but the tail pipes are welded on to the muffler. So if you are going to replace the singles with doubles you will need to cut the tail pipes off and weld the dual tips on. If you were swapping the chrome (or black) tips (covers) then they can be twisted on and off.
