So I totaled my 2013 550i xDrive...updated with pics and full story
Sad, but true. No one was hurt, but my 550 is down for the count.
So what to do??? I've been shopping M5s of course and came very close to pulling the trigger, but finally decided that it just isn't a practical DD in NJ. I have twin baby boys that will sometimes ride along, and I just can't see myself driving an M5 in the snow and rain on these shitty roads with my munchkins in the back. Soooo....I just ordered a new 2016 550ix!! I loaded it with every single option which brings the price to about $93K, and then negotiated the price down to $85K flat. Feeling pretty good about the deal and can't wait for it to arrive!! I loved my Titanium Silver Metallic, black interior, and dark wood; but went with Space Grey Metallic, black interior and aluminum hex trim this time. Very excited!! And feeling a lot better about my totaled car. Wish me luck on a speedy delivery! Last edited by Pimpsy; 07-24-2015 at 11:39 PM.. |

Glad no one was hurt. The AWD version of the 550 is awesome. Especially where you live. They are so rare out here in Cali.
BTW must of been one hell of a wreck for Insurance to pay it off for you. Congrats and take pics. Quote:

Thanks for the good wishes!
At first I was praying, OMG please don't let them total my car! I really loved that car. But then after the first day dust settled I thought to my myself, OMG I HOPE THEY TOTAL MY CAR! The final estimate on damage that could be seen was $45K+. Clearly a total loss. It was very tough not to get caught up in the madness and move to an M5. Sadly that just isn't a good choice for me. I would never forgive myself if I were to slip out in the snow or rain and one of my kids were to get hurt. ANYWAY...considering no one got hurt and I'm replacing my 2013 with a much better equipped 2016, I'm actually feeling pretty good about it now! I'm very glad to move to the N63tu for obvious reasons, and I've always wanted night vision, LED lights and the B&O. Sooooo...the wreck story is this: (grab a seat and a drink) It was a dark and cloudy night in Hoboken, NJ. I was out with one of my Tinderellas on a Saturday night, and things were going well. Really well. The date started with a meet at the bar; just a quick hug, a kiss on the cheek, and a how do you do- but there was a twinkle in her eye that said, "a Belvedere martini up with a twist might produce results here". So I called the bartender over and said, "Two Belvedere martinis, up with a twist.". She smiled. Awww yeah. After a bit of playful introductory chitchat, we moved to a table and ordered some food. Conversation flowed nicely and like the food, got a little spicy. Not too spicy mind you, but just spicy enough to let me know that this woman was game for a bit of adventure. She veiled it well under the guise of "professional business woman seeks LTR", but friends, I know a live one when I see it and this little bunny was kicking. At this point I decide to wrap up the dinner portion of this date and move to Phase 2. As luck would have it, she knew a cool bar within walking distance (Hoboken is her town) so off we went. After a quick walk we arrive at a crowded bar. She knows people here, and after a few minutes one of her hot friends comes over to say hello. The hot friend is lingering and I'm starting to wonder where this is going, so I say "Look, let me tell you two right now that we are not having a threesome tonight. <short pause> Unless you are into that? They giggle, but I can tell that it isn't going to happen. Now I have to decide, am I going to try to pull the switch here? Or lose the new friend and move to Phase 3. I consider texting Serge (Badblack550) but the hot friend seems genuinely nice so I decide to leave Serge out of this. I make an executive decision to stick with my original Tinderella, but I need to cut her from the herd and isolate to move to Phase 3. I tell her that the bar is just too loud to chat and that we should find someplace a little more quiet. She quickly suggested that we go to The Pier for a few more drinks and some "get to know you chat" and of course I agreed. (note: as I explained to the police at the scene, I drank only water for several hours prior to the incident and consequently was completely sober) So we have a few drinks (her more vodka, and of course water for me as I previously explained so that there is no question as to the level of my sobriety at the time of the incident) and we continue to chat and generally enjoy the atmosphere and the crowd. It's starting to get late, so I suggest that we walk to my car and I drive her home. (of course I want to show off my car and also get to her place) She agrees, and we walk to the parking garage. The Valet brings my car around and we climb in. She gives me the "I'm just a little bunny" look again and explains that there is no way that we are going to her place to have sex. At this point, I realize that we are going to her place to have sex. Mission objective: Achieved. She lives about 10 blocks from my parking garage, so I don't bother putting her address into my GPS. As I pull out and begin driving, she is just telling me where to turn, etc. It's hard to take my eyes off of her, but after a few blocks she tells me that my next turn is coming up as she gestures to the right. As I mentioned in the beginning of this cautionary tale, it's dark and cloudy. The street is not well lit and visibility is low, so I look over to the right and ahead to see the next turn and BAAAAAAAM. I exclaim "WHAT THE FU....." loudly as the airbags go off. I hear a terrible crunching sound and am trying to figure out what on Earth could have been in the middle of the road. It feels like I've hit some sort of curb in the middle of the street. Turns out it was a guard rail. An egregiously misplaced guardrail at that IMHO. ...continued below |

After the initial shock, I ask the young lady if she is ok. She says yes, but we are both still a little stunned at this point. I quickly count my fingers and toes as she steps out of the car. I realize that my car door won't open, so I climb out of the passenger side to have a look see.
The first thing I notice if that one of my tires, rim and all, is lying on the street about 10 feet behind the car. Shit, that's a bad sign, I think to myself. It's at this time to I realize that I've plowed into a guardrail. The road curved right, but being distracted I continued straight and just crunched right into it. Never even hit the brakes, didn't see it at all until I got out of the car to see why I couldn't open my door. Police were on the scene within 2 minutes. I think my BMW assist called them. Shortly after the initial bang I recall a mysterious voice from above asking me if I was ok, to which I replied, "I think so." The police were exceedingly professional and helpful. After a brief conversation about exactly what happened they went into standby mode as I attempted to use the BMW assist button to arrange a tow. NO ANSWER! 10 minutes later the police explain their supervisor has asked them to help me get the car out of the road, so they arrange a quick tow. My date -shaken, stirred, and now deterred- explains that she lives just two blocks away and wants to walk home. A quick kiss on the cheek and good luck...and she was gone. Mission Objective: FAILED I felt absolutely awful that she might have been hurt, but fortunately she was ok. On the upside, she has a great Tinder story that she can tell forever. We exchange a few texts over the next few days, but clearly this relationship is totaled. ...continued below |

So, where was I...
Oh yes..so the heroine is now gone and I'm slowly sinking into full mourning over the state of the precious. NOT THE PRECIOUS...! As the tow truck takes her away I can barely watch. I am too busy arranging an Uber ride home and praying to multiple Gods that my car isn't totaled. The Uber ride home is uneventful. Still in a bit of shock, I take a Valium and go to sleep. I wake the next morning thinking...man, I feel a little stiff, wtf? Then the memory comes crashing down on me like a 550 into a guard rail. Holy shit...THE PRECIOUS!!!!! I find the card that the tow truck driver had given me. I call my insurance company and explain what has happened and tell them where my car is, then I get dressed and head out to see how the car looks in the light of day. After a 30 minute drive I finally manage to find a small dingy office and sign the authorization paperwork that will let me on to the lot to see my car and gather some belongings. I walk over to the lot and am escorted to the car. My heart sinks as I see the car. It looks so much worse than I thought it might. It suddenly dawns on me that I don't want the car back after this sort of damage, so I begin desperately reversing my prayers to Gods both old and new. "Please let them total this car!!!!", I pray feverishly as a new sweat breaks out across my brow. ..and what's this? I don't remember my sunroof being open? A quick inspection later reveals that someone has partially opened the sunroof, rifled through all of my stuff, and stolen my favorite cologne. Now, not only am I devastated by the condition of the precious, I'm also furious at the insult added to my injury. I take the issue up with all parties concerned, and of course they claim no knowledge. They state that they will "review the tapes", but my sense is that they don't care nearly as much as I do. Oh well, I have bigger fish to fry at the moment, so I let it go. continued below... |

I begin the process of waiting for the claims adjuster to estimate the damage. Allstate is an excellent company to work with, and although it takes a few days to get an adjuster to review the car they stay in close communication.
They arrange a rental car an Enterprise, but it looks like some sort of Nissan leaf or something. I ask them what else they have, and they point to a Suburban. It's enormous, but considering the alternative for a moment I decide to take it. So, finally the adjuster says he has finished the initial review, but due to the size of the claim senior Allstate executives are going to review the car and details before moving forward. FFS! I ask him about his current estimate of the damages, and he says that he is up to $45K of damage that can be seen. HUZZAH! I realize then that if there is $45K of damages just based on sight, they will be terrified of supplemental claims once the car is actually taken apart for repair. I am now 99% confident that the car will be totaled. Now, bear in mind, the entire time I'm waiting for this information I've been shopping M5s and 550s on all possible sites: Dealerships, cars.com, Swapalease, the forums, etc., just in case. With this new information though the car search gets completely real. I am close to pulling the trigger on an M5 when I finally decide that it just isn't the right DD for me. Oooooooooo...I want it sooooo bad!! But it just doesn't make sense in the larger scheme of things so I decide to get another 550, since I absolutely love it as a DD. I use the beta configurator posted last week to spec out a new 550ix with every option, then pull up Truecar.com to get a sense of what a good price would be. Armed with this info I drive to my dealership (on drive for America day, as chance would have it) and order my new car. I could go on about the details of the transaction all night, but after 1.5 hours of sharing details I need a break! Suffice it to say that the new precious will be: Space Grey Metallic Black Nappa Aluminum Hex trim 351M 19" Along with every single option except for the individual trims I didn't want. Retail=$93,120. Final cost: $85K ...continued below Last edited by Pimpsy; 07-24-2015 at 11:35 PM.. |

Hope you enjoyed this cautionary tale of a Titanium Silver Metallic 550i xDrive that was just too good for this world. She was driven hard, sometimes put away wet, and seemed to love every minute of it. From her sexy white line tail lights to her discretely hidden Stage 2 kit, she both a lady and a whore. She was my lady. And she was my whore. She was the precious. RIP.

Some dude came out of a side road and crashed into my previous X5 shunting me into an oncoming vehicle so I had two impacts.
I went through the same emotions in terms of hoping that it could be fixed and then seeing it in the cold light of day and hoping that it was totalled! Luckily for me my insurance company did write it off too... |

Glad everybody was ok! You got pics of the guard rail? It's starng how a guard rail could rip your wheels off your control arms like that? Also I thought you said you had an xdrive or need an xdrive but your silver car does look like it had a front axle??

xDrive. Steel guard rail. If I get back to Hoboken, I'll try to find it and grab a couple of pics. I'm sure I left a mark, lol.
