Need new tires...
the run flats on my 2012 550 with the m-sport package are beginning to deteriorate, the roads where I live are so bad. The rubber on tire look like they are chipped. Cars only has about 6000 miles. Thinking about going with non run flats, i am looking for a all season tire. For those that has made the change to non flats, what's the best tire in your opinion...thx

Michelin A/S 3 are highly recommended by F10 owners.

I would not recommend the DWSs. They are way too soft for the F10 IMO. They do wear well and if you only care about comfort rather than handling, then they could be a good choice. Personally I would try the Michelin AS 3s.

If the road are so bad where you live that the rubber start to chip off after 6000 miles, you really need a truck with off road tires, not a 400 hp sedan with performance all season tires.

Not sure if you can get them in your area, but I changed from the Stock RFT's to these and never looked back, quiet, better grip and very comfortable.... excellent grip with no uncontrolled bounce... and had them over 6 months now and no sign of wear... roads are horrible in my area

Lee1224, I would stay away from the Continental DWS tires. Our 550's are heavy and the Load Index is such where if we're riding with passengers the tires will perform horribly and possibly be unsafe. I will admit that I'm lazy and will not run a winter setup on my 550xi, so I went with a High Performance All Season Tire.
If you're looking at a non-RFT replacement, go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 or Toyo Proxes 4 Plus. Both are excellent All-Season Performance tires and have the load index to handle drives if you have passengers! Good luck, Will aka The Swami

If you have a heavy 5 series go with a Michelin Pilot A/S 3 tires. I run the same on my 5 series and couldn't be happier with the performance. I have tried most tire brands out there. The DWS tires are amazing too but like stated above they do not provide responsive handling in a car the weights over 2 tons.
Let me know if you need anymore help You can always PM me for a fast response. |

Continental DW?
Yes, the Continental tire is soft and lacks sharp, responsive handling of even the most modest but modern RFT let alone the Michelin PS or A/S.
But they do ride quite (very little road noise), comfortable (except for rough pavement, don't feel anything at all) and wear evenly, and relatively long tread life (pic below is tire after almost 25K). I think, however, all my good luck with these tires is because they're on an 2008 E60, a much lighter car (by almost 400#). Ideal for a "wife's" car, which is what I have them on EDIT: OPPS! The tires I discuss are the DWS "All-Season" version of the DW. My observations, then, may not apply to the DW which is a 'summer' tire. Last edited by HDEddie1; 03-04-2014 at 04:37 PM.. |
