Interested in a F10 that has had engine replacement - thoughts?
Hi all
I'm in the market for a F10 and I'd love a 535i but they seem so rare! So I'm looking at a 535d or a 530d at a push. I've seen a 530d for sale which fits the bill spec and colour though one major detail which the owner has stated is that the engine has been changed. I've reached out to him and he has stated water got into the engine through the air intake as he went through a bridge with a deep puddle following a lorry which created a big wave. The brand new engine install was carried out by BMW so he has all the paper work to back this up along with the V5. My question is would water have gotten into any other areas of the car causing long term damage and do you guys think it is a ok to buy a car with a engine change? Any thoughts appreciated. |

Wouldn't worry me. Engine with less miles = result.

Engine replacement is not a problem at all. It is actually not that difficult a job - to swap the whole thing over.

A colleague at work did the same thing in his 520D company car cost the firm about £12k for a new engine, he was being a cock and driving too fast
Car was as good as new after, but then again it should have been. |

I'd not have a problem if as stated it's clearly documented
However you need to consider that you may have a smaller group of people willing to purchase it when the time comes to move it on. Therefore I'd expect the current selling price to represent this, there's lots of F10's out there on the used market so you need a pretty good incentive to purchase this one imho |

If the current vendor has chosen to mention it, then that's their call. No rules regarding omitting anything in a private sale - the only thing that matters is that you must not lie. If directly asked, you have to be honest. |

I had a new engine in my E39 at just over 60k miles, (BMW fitted), no issues from the engine afterwards. I saw it as a positive. As to buying a car with a new engine, all about why it was needed, IMO. |

Make sure you get your own HPI done. Most people would put something like that through their insurance, so ensure it's not on a damaged/repaired register. Not saying the owner isn't as honest as the day is long, but check!
