NSR tyre scrubbing.

My car has just had its second service and the dealer says that I need a new nsr tyre due to inner scrubbing - what does that mean?
Shame I was hoping to get to 35k with the same original set of tyres and I'm on 31k, says a lot about my gentle driving style.
BMW want £250 for the tyre, I can get the same tyre elsewhere for £201, Highway robbery.

OSR
Innner Cent Rear
4.20 3.60 4.00

NSR - scrubbing inner edge
Inner Cent Rear
4.00 3.30 3.70

Is it much easier to change both of the rears?

Cheers

Well those readings are still legal even though they are wearing unevenly, I would visually inspect myself as they are good for some miles yet...

Have you had an alignment check? Find an indy with a Hunter (same as what BMW and most major manufacturers use) wheel alignment machine and have them check the alignment. A check is usually free....

What tyre pressures do you use in the rear? Those readings suggest that they are over inflated as the middle of the tyre appears to be wearing quicker than the outsides

How can they say your scrubbing the N/S/R inner edge when from those readings that's the part of the tyre with the most tread on it?

We are running in parallel, bought at the same time, 2nd service just done at 34k, fronts just changed and rears have 2mm left on them

Out of interest, what is the computer showing that you have left before new pads are required? Mine is showing 6k and 10k to go, and I am not impressed!

The inner edge can easily be scrubbed off with those measurements. If I was home I could post a picture of a tyre.

It is one of the problems with BMW rear tyres, the inner edge can be worn off with plenty of depth in the main tread grooves. You can literally be through to the metal reinforcement with decent tread across the tyre.

Brakes pads are showing:
New /Actual/Usable/Rec'm
F: 14 / 10 / 9 / 3
R: 11 / 9 / 6 / 3

So lots of braking miles left, but the computer is showing that I only have 3k braking miles left.

So back to the original thread, is it advisable to get a new tyre.. I remember the dealership telling me about this issue last year in Feb, but I just ignored it and the God of cars must have been smiling down upon me for the last year!
