Need help....More choices after purchase

BIMMERPOST

I just got a 535xi and now onto the next stage, taking delivery this week since it was a car in their inventory. Which of the extra warranty/insurance/coverages is worthwhile to consider and which are a toal waste? Im definitely considering the wheel and tire insurance since I'm in NYC, but what about the other stuff?

+1 on W/T insurance. What are your specs? Maybe a tint/clear bra...

W&T is a good idea. Make sure it lasts for 5 years or the length of your lease. Also, make sure there is no limit on the number or total cost of claims. Extended maintenance and warranty can both be bought anytime prior to four years/50,000 miles. Other stuff such as interior/exterior protection is not worth it IMHO although a clear BRA could be useful. A radar detector is good insurance.

+1 on wheel-and-tire insurance. I had it on my M3, which was a waste -- never used it, but that car doesn't have RFTs. On the E92 335i that preceded it, I didn't have the insurance and bought three new tires in the 20 months I had it. I made sure to have it on the 550i with the RFTs.

With the M Sport package and living in the northeast, assume that you're buying winter tires.

From now on i always get the wheel & tire. My 2011 GTI with low profiles has had 2 tires replaced b.c of bubbles, 1 tire replaced because it blew, and 1 bent rim. This was all in the first year. NYC/Long Island has horrible freaking roads. In NY it's definitely worth it.

Example of my GTI w/ w+t. (only 1 year):
Total cost of the Insurance: $550. Total cost of replaced tires & rim: $1100. So def. was worth it.

Actually, I was hoping to get by with the all-seasons rft during winters. Is it going to be that bad without winter tires?

I'm relatively sure that if you have M Sport, you have summer performance tires. My experience with tires of that sort is that they get scary not just in ice and snow, but any time the temperature is down below about 40 degrees. The rubber isn't designed to stick in those conditions.

Remember to negotiate... those warranty items can be purchased for a LOT less than what they will originally quote you... maybe even half as much.

I think even the x with m sport comes with all season rubber. If you plan on keeping the stock wheels and tires buy the ins. I did not buy the ins because I planned on after marker summers and my stock 19's becoming my winter set up. My stock tires are sitting in my basement. I Will throw them back on if I sell the car in a few years. RFT just suck IMO BMW should give us an option. They will learn when they keep losing money on the tire ins.
