Soon Ex / Ks,

Both your cars could be started as early as today, to make the week 36 production build. (More likely later this week.) Call the 1-800 number each night and low and behold...one of these nights you will probably get the message you have been waiting for! "your car has started production with a scheduled finish date of xx"

Let us know when this happens!

^1 Makes sense, since my car was a week ahead of Soon-Ex and my tracking info says on the train
And my SA did indeed confirm my "Combox - blocked" just meant Combox - no charge" because it comes with the new connect-drive features, x2.

I'm looking at the PDF owners manual on BMWUSA and keep thinking I might need to go back to college before I can drive this thing. That manual is a monster. Latest nugget, if the battery in your remote dies, you can still start the car the normal way, but you just have to hold the key fob against the steering column.

E60,

Just curious, was your SA able to comfirm that 6VC is indeed on your car? Probably is, just would like another form of confirmation if we can.

Whatever it's worth, my fist car took five weeks to the day that my delivery would have taken place. You are a lot closer to the Port so would think that you are potentially looking at 4. Are you planning on tracking the ship?

The Key feature you talked about is great. I'm just really glad that BMW has gone back to allowing us to replace the batteries........a big improvement in convenience to the sealed, rechargable ones!

My SA confirmed combox was installed and said that we would go over all the new integration features on delivery day, eta last week of September at the latest, so I'm probably looking at 10/1-10/2 for pickup.

Key feature is also good news. And I was planning to leave some spare 2032 batteries in a magnetic fender box too!. Imagine the look of someone trying to get in my car, finds the hide-a-key box and only finds batteries inside. "WTF?"

Got confirmation on 6VC for my car, 550i xDrive, which will be built next week.
Status as of today = 150.

I've been status 150 for almost a month and the phone system has said expected completion date of Sept 6th for almost as long... Guess it technically went into production right before the factory shut in August.

Unfortunately, I have limited tracking ability. BMW USA can't access Canadian orders. The BMW Canada people say they have limited info. My dealer seems to ignore my e-mails now because in my opinion, he really doesn't want to address their lack of info over the new ComBox (knowing that my original July build was delayed to September for this reason). I went back to BMW Canada and all they could say was that I am a week 36 build now. My dealer last told me that I was week 35.

Do I wait patiently or demand some service considering that I am spending 80K+ on a car? I have to say, my dealer experience so far has been a tad disappointing.

Demand some service or burn them on the dealership review bmw corp does after every car sale. Tough break in canada, though one word of caution, keep in mind your options when it comes time for service.

Look at the bright side though, at least its not an $80k audi

Sounds like a lame excuse to me. Without trying to burn any bridges, (as what E60 brings up) I would see if you could get in touch with the local regional BMW Rep and talk to him about it. There should be no reason that you can't get the same information. Canadian's buy a lot of BMW's and should have the same level of service.

At the very least, see if you can get your VIN number once the car is finished. That way you can hopefully at least track the journey over by boat.

"My BMW CA" might be different, but with at least the order number, you should be able to start tracking. I think the order number turns out to be the last six of the car's VIN.

In my case, comparing the VIN to the Production Order Number of the "first" car I ordered, they do not match in any way.

My mistake. Either way, Ex-Audi should be able to at least get the production number out of his sales advisor. If the SA doesn't have that much, I'd question if he ever actually placed the order for him. And having said that....

You can't track any status with just the production number? Canada really is different:

Is your production number in the form of xxxxAAxxxxxxxx where the x is a number and A is a letter? I got a "Stock #" from my dealer, but I'm guess that's their stock number and not the actual production number.

Edit: Never mind, I got an actual production number.

As for confirming the availability of 6VC on my car, I'm going to get news in a few days, but I know that my car is "Sent to Production" as of yesterday. Do you know where exactly I have to get my dealer to look to find "6VC"?

Thanks!

It should be on the official build list your sa has when you put down a deposit.

If my car is on the train and yours is just starting the build process, then its a safe bet you will get the new combox.

I didn't get a build list, just a printout similar to a quote but slightly different in appearance. It includes all of the packages that I ordered, and the financial info (fees/taxes/etc).

I called BMW Canada with my actual production number, and they are only able to see that its a MY 2011 Alpine White BMW. Nothing else. They suggested I call back when I have my VIN, or contact my dealer for more info..

But thanks for the info about your car having it, meaning mine probably will as well. The only thing is yours is a F10, which was said to PERHAPS have the new combox before September production as well. Mines is a E90.

I called this morning and my car is "in production" with an estimated completion day of September 7. I'm getting excited!

Well we are offically in week 35

http://www.weekofyear.com/

I found this useful site which confirms the current week number.

The question is does BMW follow the ISO standard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_week_date

This is cool lets you add weeks to your google calendar.

I may be totally confused at this point, and natch things are different on this side of the pond, but one of the major features (as I understand it) is that you can view the album art (if loaded in your ipod) on the nav/i-drive screen. So if that's true, then that would be a simple visible indication that you got this new combo box feature thingie. I'm not all what else it gives us.

It's awfully early in the morning over here, so please excuse any mistakes.

How did you get such a specific delivery day? I've always been told "eh, it gets here when it gets here" and things like what boat it ends up on, the weather, backups at the VPC, etc. can make the ETA quite variable.

I need to sell my current car before the new one arrives, but I don't want to sell it too soon and end up walking for two months...
