Door handle lights

I have ambient lighting on my new 520d Although it lights up inside I don't see the lights working on the door handles outside. How do you get this to work?

Here is what I expect

Those usually work when the car is first unlocked… that's going by an E87 and an E90 that my Dad used to have

Nigel, that picture is a 3 series, but the 5 series lights should go on within the handles, as soon as you unlock the doors or open them to get out. There may be an iDrive setting but am not near my car to check, maybe settings>lights ?

Problem Solved

I've found the problem. The interior lights were switched off. Pressing the button controls the interior, entry and door handle lights. Pressing the button for three seconds switches them off again.

I should have but a bit obscure

I wonder if they are also part of the setting 'welcome lights'?
mine light up as soon as I unlock the car with the remote.
