Just picked up my new 550i M-Sport, Initial Impressions

I LOVE THIS CAR, but it is not as luxurious as my GT 550. It's a different and sportier ride for sure. A few things I noticed so far:
- The nav doesn't seem to dim itself at night, my GT 550 dims depending on brightness. I don't think the 550 sedan has the dimming feature! Argh!

- The Side Bolsters on the 18-way power seat don't automatically come in to hug you like they do in my GT 550 Argh!

Everything else I really like about the car, it moves quicker than my heaver GT and feels so comfortable! Love the M-Sport package.

I think the m-sport package is well worth the money as it also includes the dynamic handling package, which alone is like a 2700 option, and after having that in my GT, I wouldn't forego that in any new bmw.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the car.

I spoke with my sales contact at my dealership and had a talk while looking for a new car about the 550GT. It turns out that the 550 GT is actually a 7 series. While our F10's are an iteration of a 7 but completely on its own a 5 series.

That is why electronics and the fine details that you pointed out are more related to the 7 than our F10 5 series.

Appearance wise both look like 5's in and out but when you start looking into it more closely the GT is definitely a 7 series but with a hatchback.

None the less a great car

It does, you just have the select the right setting, check the manual.
There's only a daytime/nighttime mode though.

Congrats!
You luckily have both 5! I had twice test driven 535GT, very convenience for elderly passengers due to it's high sitting position and of course roomy as well!
sometimes you may want a bit sprint drive, 550i definitely will give you satisfactory

I Very Much miss my side bolsters in my '08 550i M-Sport. Maybe BMW will bring them back.

+1 on that.

When I drove the 550GT in every performance aspect it was inferior to a correctly equipped 550i. It did have a better luxury feel though.

+1 The automatic daytime/nighttime (or bright vs dark) setting works fine on the F10. My works very well when entering and exiting dark tunnels.

The Auto Day/Night mode does work great, it's just the brightness Im concerned about, I had to turn my way down in the control display menu because the car doesn't have an autodimming function in addition to the auto day night mode like my GT and the 7's. I guess if you didn't have another car with the autodimming function to compare it to, you wouldn't know the difference. The autodimming is a feature I've come to appreciate in my 3 series convertible and the 5 GT, so it's not glaring at you at night, even in night mode. I think it was dumb for BMW to have left out the sensor on the new 5, it couldn't have saved them that much.

Smile

The more I drive the new 5 the more I fall in love with it. I sold my 335 convertible and replaced it with this one. It's actually very different from the 550 GT I have. This M-Sport 5 is much sportier and very well balanced, it's truly a sport lux sedan, the GT is mainly just Lux. Seems like this one turns heads and gets more questions than any car I've had before. BMW really did an awesome job with the new 5.

Just took delivery today of the same exact car. Only put @ 50 miles on her today but was very impressed. Plan on a long drive tomorrow. BTW isn't the interior color combo a real looker.

It is called Anthracite Wood, it is a dark, beautiful wood grain, that really works in this car, it has a lot of grey in it so it matches the oyster leather with perfection.

I opted for the Anthracite Wood in my 550i M-sport instead of the aluminum trim, and I love it. The aluminum smudges too easily and the wood looks richer and more luxurious IMHO. I previously had the dark wood on my 08 M-sport, but it wasn't available for the F10.

Lets add another perspective, I have the aluminum trim and have no smudges. I also don't like wood grain in any car at all. So far have received plenty of compliments on the hexagon trim.

I agree, the Anthracite wood trim is just plain awesome with this color combination.
