Any updates? I'm interested to know how it compares to the BMS Intake specially in this hot weather.

I was tempted to buy one form Amazon but I wanted to see your review first.

I'll tell you, I can really tell it is getting hot. It has been right around 100F the last few days. My 330i feels down on power, and both cars are probably -1mpg fuel economy because the a/c is running so hard.

The first place I looked into with a Mustang dyno doesn't have a dyno day until the 22nd. I found another that has a Dynojet, and I'm booked in for a baseline on Monday morning. Then I'll need to install the intake, drive it for about 500mi (two weeks), and dyno it again. I will be interested to see what it does, as well. Plus, then I can install the JB4 I just picked up (and dyno again).

FWIW, when I had my 330i dyno tuned, it was on a Dynojet.

So that was a total bust. They had a bad sensor, so couldn't get an RPM reading off the engine. They said they would order a replacement, and call me back later in the week. Maybe I can get it done before Friday, we'll see.

Heading back for the baseline dyno tomorrow morning. Then install the intake and drive for a couple weeks before getting another dyno.

Update

The dyno got fixed, so I went on Wednesday and did a couple baseline runs. The sheet is attached, nothing special. Peak was 268hp and 287lbs ft. This is a 2011 535i baseline 6MT car with no mods (except a K&N drop in filter, which barely counts as a mod).

I did the install today. It was really easy, and probably took 30min max. There were detailed instructions included, which were really not needed if you have half a clue. The text was good, but the pictures weren't really all that useful. Here's a pic of it installed.

In 500 miles or so, I'll go get another dyno done. Talk to you in a couple weeks.

Hi @mko9,
Have you noticed any difference in your daily commute? How is the intake noise? Do you like it so far?

The biggest thing I notice is that the car no longer bogs down at low RPM from a stand still or a short shift. But that is just as likely a result of unplugging the negative battery terminal during the install and resetting the ECU. The engine noise might be slightly more audible than before, but still damn near non-existent. If there has been a major improvement in hp and/or torque it is too subtle for my butt-dyno to detect. We'll have to wait to see what the dyno says.

Thanks for the info @mko9. I'm still on the fence on whether or not to buy the Afe intake.

If you get the hp that AFE is claiming trust me you will feel the difference in power.

500 miles is done, thanks to a trip to Austin. I'll see if I can get to the dyno on Friday morning, maybe. Otherwise it will have to wait until next week.

EDIT: dyno scheduled for Monday morning

Results

BL: The intake does OK- see image below. Blues line is baseline, red line is with the intake. Peak hp and torque only went up a few points, but in the 2-4k range it looks like a good 15-20hp and 20-25lbs ft of torque. The baseline runs had a K&N drop in panel filter, but otherwise the car is totally unmodified (so far). No downpipe or exhaust work, yet.

Adding in spreadsheet data. I averaged the results of the two base line runs, averaged the results of the two runs with the intake installed, then compared the two data set. The table is the delta between before and after.

Thank you for all the info! I just think it's a bs. K&N drop in filter is the same numbers. I haven't seen an air intake to give a car 50 hp.

FWIW, the "baseline" runs were with a K&N panel filter, not a completely stock intake. So these are gains over just the K&N (and nothing else).
