Blue Spark v DTUK 3 Channel Box with rolling road graphs

Decided to sell the Blue Spark box and was going to get a remap then at the last minute saw that DTUK do a three channel box.

Spoke with Andrew from DTUK and got a good price of £359 delivered.

Fitting was exactly the same as the BS box but with the addition of a connection to the cam sensor for monitoring the cars RPM

The connectors are slightly better than the BS box and are more like the original factory connectors.

The unit itself is a lot more solid and professional and feels very much improved.

A huge improvement over the BS box is the ability to change settings without having to disconnect, wait 5 mins, open the box etc etc. You simply press the buttons to select the setting you want with the engine running.

The hardest part is getting out of the car and opening the bonnet!

So how does the car drive.....

The car performs stronger across the whole rev range, where as the BS delivered a lot of torque straight away the DTUK box delivers continuously it feels stronger.

Maybe less torque lower down but only slightly less, Comfort mode also feels a lot stronger than the BS box before it felt a little dull compared to Sport but now it feels alive and Sport feels stronger still.

In summary the third connection seems to make for a better driving experience and the quality of everything is improved.

I feel as though this is as good as you will get without going for a full remap.

The BS box made 300BHP and 650 Nm so we will see at the rolling road day what this makes.

I would guess at more BHP but maybe slightly less torque so 310 BHP and 630Nm.

There is nothing wrong with the BS box and for £250 it's a fair price and does a good job but spend 50% more and you have another option.

Tempted by this.

I've read your thread on F30post as it is more busier than on here.

I can't recall if this was asked though, but is this mod traceable by the dealers?

I believe your car is still under warranty so interested to here your views.

Not sure if the 530d has a similar issue as apparently with the 535i where the automatic gearbox's torque limit would be exceeded with a mod like this....

The torque limit is 700-750nm and this is fine for the 30D and pretty much the 35D as it not often you hit those limits.

I would always take it off before going to a dealer so then it's not obvious.

If something major happened they may be able to interrogate your car for any higher than expected settings but in reality I don't think the box put any starting on the car that it can't handle comfortably.

Took the car back to the same rolling road to compare the Bluespark and the DTUK boxes

Bottom lines are the BS

Produced 330 Bhp and 532 Ft Lbs (721Nm) very impressive and also drives a lot better than with the BS box

Very impressive results.

I've also read the SRR thread.

Coming from a 330d I've always been impressed with the 30d engine. Even in standard form it's a great balance of performance and economy and with these results makes me question the move back to petrol. I'm enjoying the noise but not the more frequent stops to the petrol station!

The 530d looks like a great package especially with a little boost, well quite a big boost actually!

I have use the DTUK boxes on a few cars now, all with very impressive results.

Having the ability to chose the torque curve has meant I have preferred them to many maps, which have improved things, but many times not quite in the way I would like.

I think they are as good as you will get currently without going for a full remap.

You have not been around for a while, hope all is well mate

Yeah god thanks mate, and you?

Thinking about another F11, liked mine and missed it when it went.

I think unless you have complete control over the mapping, in many ways these are better.

I had one on my wife's 20d X3 and it got great results, 184hp to 228hp from one and felt so nice to drive.

We lost our Vizsla after 12 years which was awful but he had a great life, awaiting out next puppy which is a Rhodesian Ridgeback

Currently the litter is 3 weeks old so will have to wait 5 weeks to get him, exciting times.

You still got the Weimaraner

Yeah, he is 10 in a month, only just starting to calm down, and only just starting to look old bless him.

He is our 3rd rescue now, not sure if we will have another Weimy though, just too needy. We love them, but they are hard work.

The Vizla was needy but I sort of liked that, the Velcro dog they call them.

Haha, a good name!

Look forward to seeing pics of the Ridgeback in a few weeks.
