Dark Graphite Metallic II ???
Anybody have any idea? I just looked at the configurator on bmwusa.com and the old Dark Graphite Metallic (that I have and absolutely LOVE) has been replaced, with "no image available" -- did they run out of paint or something???

Interestingly an image does show up on the Canadian site BUT you can't configure it with the MSport option.

The xiracylic paints have flecs of glass in them. Graphite 1 had this glass in the paint to make it extra shiny. Only made in 1 factory in the USA and 1 in Japan. Following the earthquake in Japan there is a supply shortage. Graphite 2 not as shiny.

.... not sure when you moved, but the area has changed a lot. We've been here 15 years, and it's grown significantly -- grew up in Orange County, and that area is even worse. |

No. My car goes to the body shop today after a 20 something driving way too fast in an SUV in a heavy snowstorm hit me in February. I was told that they have the authentic paint available in the US. It is the exact same paint as BMW uses with a different binder. BMW uses a water based paint which will not work for a body shop.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand - I've just called my dealer and arranged an appointment for door repair for 14th June - they know my car's colour is Sophisto Grey (Xirallic) A90 and didn't say anything which either means - there are no problems with the paint or b) they are clueless and will keep my car for a month. ;-) |

Note that "Xirallic" as additional paint designation seems to have been used only in very few markets, i.e. UK.
At any rate, Xirallic is the name of that particular pigment produced in Japan, so the assumption Xirallic = A90 makes a lot of sense. No idea which additional attribute BMWUK figured out for B90
