Bmw pressure converter warranty letter.

Did anyone else received the limited warranty letter from BMW for pressure converters. I'm glad they did this because these parts are known to go. Limited warranty extends pressure converters to 10 years/120,000 miles from the first service date. I had mines replaced under warranty and 8 months later it went out again and unfortunately I was out of my factory warranty. Purchased the new OEM revised version and installed it myself.

The letter also stated that if the pressure converter was replaced anytime before they would reimburse your money back. To get reimburse, I would have to provide a shop labor invoice with the date that the work was done. Since I did the work myself and purchased the OEM part do I still qualify to get reimburse?

Driving in the late 70's taught me to try and balance economy with fun. I have fun every now and then but mostly drive with MPG in mind. Since I retired (well actually aged-out) my "world" is quite a bit smaller and freeway on-ramps are the only real place to punch-it. Then I have to be careful that a CHPer isn't behind me (already on the freeway) watching me have fun. The problem is I'm at 90+ before I even check my speed! There is virtually no way to have fun on city streets with as many gendarmes as we have here. Prety much the only time I use Sport or Sport+ is on the on-ramps. Lately I've been behind a soccer mom (or old lady in a FWD appliance) in a mini van and have to try and merge at 50ish.

I guess basically I don't get into it much. It's my wife's car now and I'm pretty sure she rarely spools-up the turbo.

Hi ezaircon4jc,
I have a 2013 535xi and my pressure converter was replaced under warranty in October 2015. It failed again and the strange noise is back. The dealer says I have to pay for the repair this time since I am out of warranty. You said you received a letter from BMW - was it specific to your model?
Thanks for your reply.

It's a 2102 535i. The letter is buried in some paperwork that I can't access right now. Once my shoulder gets better (rotator cuff) and I get some range of motion back I'll take a look at the letter.

ezaircon4jc,

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about your shoulder - I know how it feels. I had frozen shoulder and it took me sometime to get back the range of motion. I hope yours is not as bad and that you recover soon.

Best regards,

Best regards,
Thanks! My sister (and what I read on the interweb) told me it takes a year to be fully back to "normal". My next goal is a tie; back in the driver's seat and back in bed and out of my recliner! I'll try and get at it tomorrow...

If we're talking about the part that I think we are, mine's been replaced twice already under warranty. No sign of extension letter here in Canada.

I wonder if it applies in Canada. I noticed the same deal with the sunset of 2G technology for the ConnectedDrive/conceirge/RTTI services on the older cars. Letters about free upgrades go to all owners in the USA, everyone in Canada just looks at you confused with no idea what you're talking about.

I took a look yesterday and can't find it. I'll have to look more thoroughly when I get out of this sling.

Thanks for looking for the letter. It is ok if you don't find it. My car is still at the dealership (dropped of on Thursday late evening). Because of the long weekend and dealership being very busy I didn't get the car back yet. Not sure how much it will cost but probably get it back tomorrow. In the mean time I have a 220xi as a loaner which is a fun car to drive.

A kind of humming/buzzing at idle when you stop the car, which will go away if you tap the throttle.

Video of mine, fixed under warranty, the humming, not the normal injector clacking:

My pressure converter was humming/buzzing and I had the part replaced under warranty in May of this year. I noticed that the buzzing is back again if I rev the engine at idle. I am not noticing any boost loss although I haven't measured the boost pressure. This is really disconcerting if the part continues to fail within just a few months...

Is the humming/buzzing a definitive way to say it is going bad?

The buzzing is due to a ruptured diaphragm in the convertor. It's not going to be working properly, and it's a vacuum leak. I think my 2011 has had it replaced 4 times under extended warranty. I'm beginning to think that I'm going to need to have these on the shelf at home now that my warranty is up

This will only affect PWG versions of the engine, as far as I know. I believe that my original part from the factory may have never worked entirely properly. Before my first pressure convertor replacement I had never heard the wastegate pufff when I released the throttle.

The buzzing is back I'm still under warranty so I'll take it in again. Low-speed acceleration has been pretty sluggish lately. Anyone know what is the part number for the latest revision of the pressure converter/boost solenoid? I can't imagine this is a recurring problem.

I will try to find my paperwork from last year to get the part number for the solenoid that was previously replaced.

My latest repair from last June (same problem) said 11-74-7-626-351

ECS and some other places have these, some specifically from Pierburg for less than genuine.

RealOEM shows that part# superceded by 11747649407, but only for production dates after 6/2012, which ECS also has but only genuine BMW. I'd be interested in a discussion of latest/best parts since this does seem to be recurring

The language on RealOEM looks a little odd, with overlapping start/end dates, and unclear whether those dates are production dates for the car, or the parts. hmm.

Considering this warranty letter was sent out sometime in 2017 (which I never received for my 01/2014 built car), there must have been a revision of the part around this time. But like Surly73 mentioned, there seem to be 3 part numbers listed on RealOEM (2 active part numbers based on build date?).

This is a common problem on all PWG N55s as the F30 guys seemed to have this issue as well. Maybe the F30 revised part will work on the F10s and solve the problem once and for all?
