Lightbulb DINAN Performance Tuner Stage 1

Hi Guys,

I'm planing to get this for my 535i M 2013 since I have the Certified Preowned car is it true that this Stage will not avoid warranty?

http://www.dinancars.com/product/d44...ries&mid=1142/

Do you recommend anything else?

Thanks

I would not waste money on Dinan when there are better options for cheaper. If your worried about warranty find a mod friendly dealer and build a relationship with an SA. Will save you headaches in the future.

Go with Mission Performance if you can. If not, JB4 is a plug n play. With the Dinan some of the Dealerships do not warranty Dinan nor do they sell Dinan products due to claims Dinan did not want to cover. There's some threads on it if you look that not just the 5 series but other models

That's correct. I have seen posts with people that installed Dinan and the dealer and Dinan were both trying to get out of covering the part.

Going to DINAN for your performance tune is like going to a straight massage parlor when what you really wanted was the happy ending.

LOL! I would not pay $2k+ for a happy ending! $2k+ in BMW parts/mods...that would be a happy ending just not Dinan...that's more like rape

FWIW I'm planning on going with Mission Performance.

I'm dropping my car off at my friends shop this evening to have him bring the cars integration level up to date, as MP wants to tune off the latest DME firmware revision. Everything in my car is as it left Germany.

Mission Performance does have performance data available, Stage1 was dyno'd here:
http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1235150

I'm waiting to see what the official polished Stage2 yields before I make my final decision as to which one to go with.

This car is a 2011 535 old DME, thus produces less power than the newer 535 models. Your gains will be much higher and your stock power as well.

There is a really good post on 3 series side about the Dinan stage 4! Definitely the most expensive route to go. BMW dealers vary on who will be nice and who won't which is out of your control. Dinan stories vary too some people get covered and love them and some don't or have horrible experiences pulling teeth trying get things approved.

In regards to Dinan stage 4, that tune is great for the turbo on the n55 for the F30. The recent discoveries from working with MP I've learned a few things about the N55 F10. You can request as much as boost as you like from the turbo, but it has an airflow limit lower than the F30 turbo. We have the same amazing N55 block as the F30, but diffident turbos. So, no matter what our flow is limited. You can exceed the limit but you can kiss those turbo seals goodbye. Dinan knows theses factors so you'll never get the most out of that tune unless you upgrade the turbos.

Other technics used to get more power out of the f10 n55 that max all engine settings is going to be a flash tune. Some tune it safely like MissionPerformance and some lean it out way too much exponentially lowering the life of your turbo, block and other hardware components.

I have the stage 2 MP tune, DP and running about 4 gallons of e85 and making about 340/420. This is not even the final tune which came this Saturday I'll have the final numbers. The only way to better hp numbers is going to be upgrading the wheel in the stock housing which I'm also working with MP on. It'll be a stage 3 release and we should be able to crack 400 for the N55 F10!

In regards to warranty outside of the Dinan approach you would be covered because of the mBoot from MP where you can flash back to stock remotely.

I recently installed a Dinan Stage 1 and free-flow exhaust.

It's great!

The car purrs, throttle response is vastly improved. It didn't turn the car into an over-the-top high performer, but it now feels and sounds like a proper BMW.

I would suggest anyone with an F10 to install the Stage 1 immediately and think hard about doing the exhaust as well.

BTW, for BMW owners in central Connecticut, I had my Dinan installed by Munich Motor Sports in South Windsor. Great, independent shop that does a lot of race work. Incredibly knowledgeable, reasonable rates, delivered everything as promised. A pleasure to deal with from the moment I first called them.

BMW of Fremont does the install and covers it with warranty. I was going to get it done there (its my normal go to dealership) and the SA are great. Was going to get DINAN since my car is CPO but I went with RaceChip.. half the price and better performance.

How come the RaceChip don't effect the CPO are you sure?
Who install it for you and how much will cost for installation I will have it if it will not effect my CPO.

so I guess before you take your car for check you take it off and then you install it after. but I'm wondering in the system I think it shows all these add on.

Just to add on, after adding the chip... this car feels entirely different. I cant imagine driving it without the added 100 ft lb of torque.

Be clear....Dinan doesn't care if your car is CPO'd or not. They are not going to warranty it after 4 yrs/50k miles. I asked them the same question when I was looking at warranties for my vehicle. I was thinking about purchasing one from BMW, since Dinan works so closely with BMW, because I was under the impression that it would help with the Dinan warranty, as well. Nope.

The good news is...unless you come in with a bunch of stickers, the dealership won't know you've had your ecu flashed. I was told it doesn't show up unless it's a Dinan tech working on the car knowing exactly what to look for. So it shouldn't be a problem.

And if the flash ever gets wiped...Dinan will reflash it for free.

But here's the thing...like others have said...Dinan tunes are pretty milquetoast. The reason that they are honored by BMW is because the tunes are really mild. I have Stage 3 on my 550i and I'm thinking about adding a piggyback, as well. It's just not mapped aggressive enough for 19 psi of boost. But...it's safe.

Life is always a trade off, huh?

Any mods to your engine if there's a problem that you want BMW to fix is going to cause issues, if your S.A. tells you differently they're lying lol. CPO is just like insurance, they're always going to look for a way to get out of a claim which is how they make $$. Same with aftermarket warranties.

I had thought about piggybacking my car but since the N63 has had so many issues, if/when it blows up and I've done something to it, I can just see myself having to pay OOP for it which means I will just be getting another car. I don't know enough about codes and logging to know what they can/can't pull at detonation or at issues so it could be a non-issue, but I think the rebuild on my N63 is over $10k, so I'll pass for now and just get a track car to go a little faster.

People here like to trash Dinan bc it's expensive but it's a different type of tune so you have to take that into account. I would love to do a true DME tune but my car doesn't allow it. However I've seen Dinan M5s locally with crazy dyno numbers so to write them off as not working is just wrong. They're just not as aggressive as others in the lower stages.
I'm more interested in making my car faster around a circuit than off the line so better brakes, stiffening, suspension, etc. is where I add to my car. 0-60 is cool if you're 16 or 60. Turning left and right quickly is way more fun.
