Folks,

I did try to search and while I could find individual threads on 550i Dinan and M5 stock Mufflers, I could not find a comparison of the two.

I currently have the F10 M5 Mufflers on my 550i and the sounds is quite impressive. However, I am thinking about the Dinan Mufflers for the 550i as from what I have read, the stock M5 F10 mufflers cause a noticeable reduction of low end torque.. (again, I have read it but not experienced it due to not going back to stock and comparing).

So my query really is what would most of you prefer on your cars if you had the choice between these two?

Stick with the M5 mufflers. Do you have them hooked up to your vacuum line so the valves work?

I'm no expert, but I would be hard pressed to think that mufflers designed for an M car would yield a loss of torque.

The only time stock M5 mufflers cause reduction in torque is when they are not hooked up correctly. As AMTF10 said, make sure you have the vacuum lines hooked up. These cars use shared vacuum source for the exhaust flaps and turbo wastegates. If you leave your mufflers unplugged, the waste-gates will be lucky top build even 5 psi of boost.

Vacuum lines are hooked up and and he valves are functioning as designed. I love the sound as it's nice and deep. I'm almost disappointed that I can't hear the same tone inside the cabin that I can if standing behind the car.

So besides the Dinan mufflers being tamer than the M5 mufflers, would there be any other reason to consider them? Dinan claims that the Dinan muffler will ad 10hp if combined with their stage1 Software. Would the M5 mufflers not give the same? (I may have a set of dinan mufflers on a for sale thread here if there is really no benefit over the M5 stock setup)

I have M5 mufflers on my 535i. Seeing how my original muffler didn't have a flap and I don't have vacuum lines, am I doing myself a disservice by keeping the valves closed on my mufflers? I would open them but the drone is annoying, but at the same time I don't want to restrict power.

You should be fine. M5 mufflers will flow enough air with the flaps closed for a stock or mild N55.
