Brake change warning

My front brake pads are 7 mm and rear are 3 mm. iDrive says Front pads need to be changed in 3200 miles (saying so since the last 7 months) while for rear it is -200 miles with my "BRAKE" light on.

Last month when I was at the dealer rear pads were 5 mm and iDrive was saying 9000 miles. There was one day when a guy ran his red while taking a left and I breaked freakishly hard and that is when the numbers changed on iDrive. From 9000 mile for brake pad changes it reduced directly to 700 miles.

Dealer asked $140 for brake inspection and I am going to assume they will suggest change for either $915 or get a maintainance plan for $2500

Brake inspection at firestone and that guy tried scamming me too telling me that rotors are not smooth and would suggest me to change both front and rear pads, rotors and sensors (total of $1100) for all four.

I am sure the rear pads still have 3-4 mm and front 6-7 mm. Should I still go and change or is it just the sensor that is screwed up?

Any suggestions appreciated. TIA.

First thing is to lift up the car and do a visual inspection yourself. Just take the tire off and check each rotor/pad.

If your brakes were at 5mm last month; I'd change the rears for sure. https://www.carid.com/articles/is-it...ew-brakes.html

After looking at them; if they are getting bad. I'd suggest installing them yourself. Brakes are on of the easiest things left most people can do on these cars.

3mm is right at the first sensor wire, its a 2 stage sensor, so your hard stop likely cut the preliminary sensor wire which is why the cars CBS moved up its estimate. It's time for a brake service, if the rotors don't meet minimum thickness specs or will be under thickness by the time the new pads are spent again they should be renewed.

If you think everyone in the service industry is out to get you... you either are taking it to the wrong places, or you have the wrong car.
